Cirugia / Surgery

I have something important to say, which I have been keeping silent for most of this year. It's more of a personal thing, but now I feel I want to tell you people about it.

Early this year, at the end of March, if my memory serves well, my mother was told she had to have a heart surgery.

This was something I was dreading since long ago. My mother does have a slight heart condition, but she lived all her life with no apparent problem. Now the situation aggravated a bit and now we can not avoid it. She has to have a heart surgery.

What she is going to to have, actually, is the installation of a mechanical valve in her heart. They say this is quite a normal operation so the risks are minimun, but it's the first time a family member is in this situation, and that freaks me to no end.

I am scared. I tell myself not to be, but I am.

The surgery will take place on the 6th of December. On that eventful week I will go with the rest of the family to Buenos Aires, to be near. You won't hear from me during those days, and possibly not on the week after that. I truly wish it all ends up good.

That's all I truly wish.

In order to proceed to the operation, my mother needed blood donators. Several family members attended the call, and I was among them. Incidentally, I drew this picture in an attempt of bringing the importance of blood-donating to people:

Also, I developed these DeviantStamps for anyone wishing to place in their journals:

So that's it. Just wanted to tell you about it. Just felt I wanted to tell, anyway.

To those whom I owe Requests, I ask for your patience. As you can probably guess, I am not quite in the mood for drawing Requests.

Goodbye, then. I shall return someday around the middle of December... hopefully bringing good news.

Take care.

'Routine operation' or not, it's no minor thing to crack open someone's chest and fiddle with their heart! I don't blame you for being worried!

BUT, 'routine operations' usually go off without much problems. If this is something she's had all her life, it's not like one of her valves suddenly collapsed or something and it is immediately life-threatening. I get the feeling that they're attending to it now so it DOESN'T get worse, right? In which case, this is the best time to do it because your mother's health is pretty prime for a procedure like this. She should recover pretty quickly too.

Your mother will be in my thoughts, and I hope everything goes off without any complications. Please let us know how everything turns out!

Take care, Max!

Yeah, as a matter of fact, she should have had her operation like... five years ago, or at least that's what the medics said.

My father is a very wise man, who usually has to fight very hard against the "normal" flow of thought. He didn't see my mother as if she actually needed an operation, but he saw it as an excuse so the doctors could get a check. So, he investigated widely and found an expect who claimed my mother could still live normally, and so she did.

Now it's different, though. Even that especialist claimes it was time for the surgery, and so we've been preparing it all. It's a monstrocity of bureocracy (sp?), which is probably the worst. So much paperwork to have it done! It's a nightmare.

And yes, she's going to have her surgery so it doesn't get worse.

Thanks for caring, Annette...

Well, you just be sure to get all the paperwork finished as thoroughly as possible, so they don't come back and slap you with a bill in another 5 years because of some small thing.

I hope everything goes smoothly for your family, Max.
