Chapter Twenty-Five: Reckless
The clouds that day seemed darker than usual. They had an ominous tinge of black. Of course, Dr Church was a man of science. He knew that this, logically, was just the foreboding of a summer shower or an unusually high output of smoke from all the city's factories. He was cultured enough to notice the darkly prophetic symbolism of the shadowy skies and the chill wind, but too intelligent to let it bother him.
He kept a brisk and businesslike pace as he traversed the smooth streets from Lord's Way to the upper town, after a brief stop at the post-box near his house. He had one more lead to follow, but he knew it wasn't going to be easy. Incendia had mentioned something about Luminarium's research budget. A small, seemingly insignificant lead could be the proof that he needed, but all Imperial Guard records were kept at their headquarters under strict confidentiality.
It was risky, but if he could access the Guard's records he might be able to find that
