Areliano by Mechabadger Areliano by Mechabadger
Areliano. What a dude. He survived Galleon. In the sequel that never was, he was going to find a drunk and washed up Rhama Sabrier and get him to stop Faith, who was going to be the villain!

Ah the good old days.

Galleon was an amazing game.

It did original playful body interaction between characters before the Prince of Persia (the one with Elika). There was so much nice detail in all animated interactions between Minoko, Faith and Rhama. Galleon even tried to do climbing on giants before Shadow of the Colossus. Level design that encourages exploration, originality in every location (I still remember the awesome scene with the "giant" robot and the small (shrinking) Rhama), interesting AI, an exciting ending...

The long development and blocky dated graphics style may have ruined the public perception at the time, but maybe a re-release on platforms like Xbox Live Arcade or Steam (if at all possible technically and legally) would be profitable. Times have changed and niche games can generate a lot of money, something we could not imagine before 5 years.

a sequel to galleon?! i hope that's still on the "to do" list sometime in the future - the plot sounds interesting!!! to me, galleon anticipated the resurgence of sea-faring films, such as pirates of the caribbean, and the big bosses of shadow of the colossus

Yeah, but no. Not on the todo list.
There was simply not enough interest, I have to consider it my Howard the Duck. i.e. I was mental when I made it.
Man, I really loved Rhama though. He was the man.
Did you know it was an american guy who played Rhama? His UK accent was fantastic. He did a wicked Tom Baker.
MightyJonE Featured By Owner May 27, 2011
no, i never noticed it was an american voiceover - and he could do tom baker too?!?! that's amazing!!! so i guess he was an old dr who or little britian fan - though was little britian even on TV when galleon was made?

yes, rhama WAS a great character, and when you controlled him, at speed you really got the idea that he was an unstoppable force - he kind of commanded his environment, unlike lara who always kind of stuggled thru an environment - i guess in this respect, he was more like the prince from the POP games, and now altair and enzio from assassin's creed, though none of these games characters quite have the smoothness of motion thru the environment as rhama, and of course, galleon pre-dated these games and to some extent, zelda: the wind waker

i still think galleon is worth revisiting one day, if you ever have the opportunity - it's got some great elements - exploring islands, navigating the high seas, huge monsters....all fantastic in wind waker, too, but there simply aren't many adventure games like this

People always used to ask me why he didn't wipe that tomato sauce off his beard. I get it now.
