ah the Fafnir Assault class mech.....one of the two choices of mech you could receive for doing particular missions in MW4: Mercs, the other being the Templar mech if memory serves me right.

Either way. One will be earned and the other will be salvaged.

yep, i did some looking up and it's the Fafnir mech that you earn and the Templar is the salvaged one.

Actually both can be earned or salvaged depending on who you side with. If davion then you earn the Templar, if it's steiner its the Fafnir.

if you side with Steiner the op commander of the facility "conveniently" signs one Fafnir over to you saying that he'll tell the company that one was lost in battle. if you side with Davion, the raid on the experimental facility that houses the Templars grants you salvage of a Templar. you can only get ONE Fafnir/Templar per playthrough as i did a little test on my old rig after posting my original comment, i picked the Fafnir and decided to browse the mech market after each mission after and not once did a Templar mech show up in the buyable mechs list.

Actually, what he tells you is that they have one-too-many Fafnirs and asks you to help "balance the books." And I think you get two Templars and one Fafnir per play-through, either as salvage or bonus payment. Selling them to the Free Market is the only way they'll end up there.

Of course, by the time I usually get to Talon/Wernke, my 'Mechs' average mass is such that the Templars are useless.

oh yeah, that he does! my bad heh...anyway, it's either 1 or 2 Fafnirs/Templars as my playthroughs never saw more than the one from either mission after they were done. and your average mech mass means they are useless? i always field 2 assault, 1 heavy and 1 medium....and i just roflstomp the enemy lol!

In my playthroughs, I have eight 100-tonners by that point. No room for measly 85-tonners.

:wow:
I'm likin these more extreme industrial Mech's, I could
just see the top of one of these as a Descent bot cruising
around in Zero-G scaring the crap out of players that saw it!

I've seen some mechs with
huge thrusters for increased
aerial maneuverability! :nod::D

Yes, some of these 'Mechs have jump jets, but given the design of the machines as ground-attack vehicles, they are merely for traversing obstacles otherwise impassable or for positioning the 'Mech in a tactically advantageous position, i.e. on top of a large rock. They aren't versatile enough

As for this particular 'Mech, it doesn't even have an option to mount jump jets, and frankly, it doesn't need them.

:iconhahaplz: Hah! Funny!
I just got an image of the RoboCop mech at the
top of the stairs, testing it's footing - to see if it
could proceed, as opposed to a hardened Mech
with auto leveling jets during a long jump! :D

FFFGGHHAAAAA I recently drove a Fafnir for the first time in Btech. Usually I go for things that are fast and mobile...but for once is was sorta nice to plod along and just lay waste to the field with my 2/2 Gauss specialist. :3

I remember when I used to play MW4, and the Fafnir was just too cool. Only mech I ever used.

Man, if only Catalyst (I believe that's who owned the franchise at the time.) had asked you to illustrate, we wouldn't have an official Fafnir with pencil arms. This looks awesome!

Actually, I did the redesign for the Mechwarrior 4 PC game back in 2002-2003 that this drawing is based on. I wasn't working for Catalyst then, but I am now. Microsoft actually owns the right to the MW4 redesign so Catalyst still uses the old and skanky version you're talking about.

Out-bloody-standing.   Well worth the wait, David.  This is probably the best iteration of the Fafnir yet.
