I'm like 12 and I'm still not sure whether i should get checked out or not. I mean everyone says I'm different and I like just being alone sometimes but there's just some things in here that makes me think about myself.  rvmp

It's up to you.  I wish more was known about ASD when I was that age (I'd already been diagnosed with OCD and Anxiety Disorder), because I actually wasn't diagnosed until I was around 18.  For me, it explained a lot of behaviors and was like a sigh of relief; other people view a diagnosis as something depressing to have.

A diagnosis can certainly help if you're struggling with a subject in school (it was math, for me, which always took me a long time).  I wasn't successful in college (freaked out in the second semester and had to come home), but I was granted extra time on my exams and a less stressful place to take them (rather than a room full of kids).  If I had that when I was in middle and high school, I would have had an easier time with exams (as the only time I ever finished a math midterm/final was in geometry...not counting the special ed school I eventually wound up going to in my final two years of high school, which didn't really have many tests at all; our grades came from assignments).

For me. It's writing that always gets me. I get real nervous and end up making a bunch of mistakes. If I had to writing in a classroom. I would freak out. Which is one of the reasons I'm glad I have live classes I go to on my computer. As for the it's up to me. I'm too nervous at what my parents would say. I mean I thought and even tried asking them if they agree that I should get checked out, but whenever I try to ask that I just get way too nervous. But I'm 90% sure I am. It would explain all these behaviors. But in the end I'm just too nervous.

I was diagnosed before I entered kindergarten...back in 2000.

I wish I had been diagnosed earlier; there are a lot more support options for kids growing up than there are for adults.  @.@

Relating to the second panel, late 2013, it was confirmed that Susan Boyle had Asperger's. Overall, Kairy-wolf, Happy 2014 and regardless of whether or not you're on the Autism Spectrum [ASD], you are cool and are cute on the fourth panel. :aww:

I heard about that one; I'm not really a fan or anything (actually, the only time I heard her singing was on Britian's Got Talent...I think...and-or maybe on the radio and not realized it).

Haha.  XD  Yeah, right. :sarcasm: I feel really cool when I have a meltdown after I eat wheat or my socks don't fit right or I walk into a crowd.  I don't know.  Sometimes I guess we do kind of rock.    I do have a problem with people using ASDs as a way to get attention (different than the fantastic awareness that you are raising!  Great job there!) But sometimes its hard to tell.  I have learned to cope with a lot of things.  How do you feel about being able to "test out" of an autism diagnosis?

"Test out"?  I don't understand how someone can test out a diagnosis...they either have it or they don't.  o.o

Yeah.  I'm not really sure I buy it either.  I guess they are just saying that people adjust and learn to live with their autism to the point where the various autism qualifications no longer apply to them.  If you Google search 'testing out of autism' or something similar, a lot of articles will come up about a study some scientists did last year about it.  Even though I have gotten used to a lot of the difficulties in my life and am doing pretty well, I still consider myself autistic and I always will.  I think this 'testing out' thing is probably due in part to misdiagnosis by the doctors in the first place. Not sure.

And now I'm thinking of Shepard, "If you've heard of it, it's already too mainstream for me." I know too much about games I have never played.

I didn't get diagnosed until I graduated high school (would have been helpful to know beforehand, though that explains why all the therapists I was taken to barely helped me; they were treating me for anxiety, not the root cause).

Back then, the problem was that autism was closely associated with mental retardation, so nobody ever thought to test me for it.  But once I did get the diagnosis, I mentioned it all the time in introductions so that people would know why I'm doing something that's "weird".  I lost a lot of friends over that in the past, and it was frustrating because I couldn't just tell them WHY it was that behaved like a child or latched onto one thing and hyperfocused on it.

Yep, and there are plenty of other famous people with Aspergers, as well: an example is the great Albert Einstein!

Yep!  Another big one (to me, at least, being into the genre) is Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of Pokemon.

Nobody really knew what it was when I was six, and with the ADD/ADHD craze running rampant, I'm just lucky I didn't get misdiagnosed with that (though, I did score borderline ADD when I was tested, but it was all because of the social part of the testing).
So, I wasn't actually diagnosed until I'd already graduated high school, but it was easy for me and everyone else to trace the behaviors back to even preschool.
