Acceptance certainly is hard to achieve.

But, if there is an undeniable truth I have learned is you must also accept the world for what it is, both the ugly and the beautiful things, since you as an individual are powerless to change it.

This. Somehow answers every life problem. Just like how they introduced that one autistic character in Sesame Street, this two, is very clever.

I heard about that with Sesame Street.  Actually, I heard it had been in the works for a while, but is finally out.  I'm hoping that it all works out properly and they portray her correctly; it's a big step in awareness and acceptance.

Yep. It's quite clever for the autistic children. But for the rest of my life, I'm calling them special, because they are special in every way.

Ouchers...hope you've found one which is more patient.  I've had to deal with a couple of those, too; makes you wonder who gave them their PhD, right?

There's a lot that aren't even qualified. The government have cut a lot of of staff and services and the nhs is struggling and greedy private companies come in.

I know the feeling! It'd be so much easier for me to get along with people and accomplish things if everyone stopped trying to judge me by non-autistic standards and teach me in non-autistic ways. It's like I'm here saying "I really can't do it this way" and everyone's saying "Just try harder!" and forbidding me from taking the option that's easier for me, because it "looks weird". And they roll their eyes and act like I'm a baby, because if it's not difficult for them then it must not be difficult for me >_<

Heh, to be honest, I don't mind being unique. It makes life that much more fun! After like my teacher once said.

"Anyone can be normal, but it takes courage to be different."

It's more of that I was changing the type of comedy, so calling it "season two" just makes it easier to divide it up into another folder.

That's a pretty accurate depiction of how my life was three to four years ago... it couldn't really have been described better. Fortunately things cleared up when I eventually did have a chance to catch up with everyone else.

Yep, but not the last!  The closest thing to an autism-related AuTalkz was the first issue dealing with the DSM changes, but that wound up focusing on something else.

I originally created AuTalkz with these sort of topics in mind, but it became a satire as that was easier for me to write.  This season will be a bit of a challenge, but it's what I had originally intended.

I wasn't diagnosed until I was 18, but looking back, the signs/behaviors were there.  I even found an old report card from preschool that had a personal note from the teacher on it that pointed to either ADHD (social interaction area) or Autism.

Frankly, I'm surprised that I wasn't tested for ADHD/ADD (as not much was known about Autism when I was growing up; it was generally associated with Intellectual Disorder/Mental Retardation, so people generally weren't considered to be autistic unless they were low functioning or had a low IQ).
Granted, back then, there was an "ADHD/ADD scare", and also that most parents really didn't want to admit that there was something wrong with their kid (let alone put them on medication).

i'm 18 in 13 days, and NOBODY in my school, and the people in the few internships i had even thought that i might have it (with the exception of my latest internship, because the owner of this place also had a child with autism) ,Only my mother knew something was different with me, but not what exactly,

and the only ones who did think i might have asperger autism were family members who had to deal with people who have this, didn't help however that the first person to mention that i might have this is the kind of person that says you have cancer if you cough a lot.

From what I recall, I believe my teachers always knew there was something different about me.  The kids certainly did, that's for sure, even if none of them knew what (besides my OCD with germ phobia, which was easy to spot).

It was just a time period where most parents didn't want to admit there was something wrong with their kid, and there were known issues with medications like ritalin, so I wasn't even tested for ADD/ADHD (which has similar social symptoms as ASD).
