When we lost him, we lost not only a great comedian, but also a thoroughly decent human being. I watched him for almost all of my 60 years on this Earth; I never saw an interview with or about him which didn't make me wish I accidentally lived next-door to him and his wonderful wife, Virginia. He and Pickles were our last living link to an era, and its passing is sorely missed.
