I do still read SF! I wish I could say I had some insider knowledge about this. But honestly, I didn't have any real reason for giving him 5 fingers in this pic. I'd always assumed the Superfogeys 4-finger design was a stylistic choice, and had no idea that it'd turn out to be plot-relevant.
