Octavia and DJ by mayorlight Octavia and DJ by mayorlight
A sketch of Octavia and DJ, Equestria Girls-style. As always, I do my best to keep in practice with traditional media - as much as I love the digital stuff. Part of the challenge is also making do with what colors are on hand - especially if you're operating on a budget.

Tools: Mechanical pencil, Sakura Micron pens, Copic & Prismacolor markers.

Working Music: Gala Gala Happy by SoftHard.

Octavia Melody, DJ Pon3 (c) Hasbro

Nice work on those colors- fairly smoothly applied, I think. The posing is natural, too.

Thanks. I'm glad that I could achieve that natural feel with two characters (I plan on doing more multiple character pieces to work on posing and composition).

I love this drawing man! I also like the fact that this is traditional art. :D Great job!

They turned out quite well indeed. I really like the shading, too, even though it makes their hair look a little bit like it's made out of chromey metal - it's due to the sharp transition between dark and bright white highlights. Somehow, the shading on Tavi's bra turned out best - really smooth and even and just how it should be. Well done.

Thank you. Ironically, I only used one pen for Tavi's top - just applying more and more layers of the same color achieved that smoother shading (I've been away from the ol' markers too long hah!).

Yeah, it's a functional technique too. It's not the most complex, from one point of view, but from another it takes more skill to use it successfully like that. And you've managed that just right, so, yay!
