A lot of you know me for my drawing.  But my training was originally in creative writing; I have a bachelor's degree in that area from Baruch College of New York City.  I had actually tried to make it as a writer with both short stories and even a novel.

I was a complete and total failure so I gave up.

Now, I have a second chance.  I recently acquired a book titled Nine Day Novel by Steve Windsor.  This book tells how to write a full length novel in nine days.  Impossible, you say?  It's not.

Following the advice in the book, I wrote a whole script for my comics, half of another one and two pages of my planned novel (more on that in a second).  So Windsor's advice does work!

In early May, I've set time aside to write a fantasy novel.  The working title is the Sergeant and the Black Knight.  Besides writing the novel, I intend to create interior illustrations to show the characters and various scenes.  The idea for this came from Gahan Wilson doing interior illustrations for the Roger Zelazny novel A Night in the Lonesome October.  So what's this work about?

The novel takes place in a world much like our own.  The technology level is 1500s; knights on horseback, plate armor, swords, shields, axes, etc. are still widely used but pistols, muskets and cannons show up too.  The novel deals with an ongoing war between two factions - the Tetrarchy and the Treaty.  The Tetrarchy is basically the evil Empire, seeking to conquer the world and unify it under a single government.  The Treaty, formally known as the Treaty of Mutual Defense, is a loose confederation/alliance of kingdoms, city-states, villages, towns and merchant guilds.  They're fighting for the freedom, aiming to stop the conquest of the Tetrarchy and regain captured territory.

The book itself deals with two protagonists - Atlas, a sergeant in the Treaty Free Corps (similar to our world's French Foreign Legion), and Sandra, a captain, aristocrat and wielder of firearms.  They learn of the Tetrarchy renewing their offensive after a lull in the fighting, meeting the new Tetrarchy field commander, the vile General Zalinaz.  The two embark on a long campaign, fighting back against the ruthless Tetrarchy forces.

I may be sharing concept sketches and even some excerpts in the coming months.  Stay tuned!

This is a personal entry.  I can't believe 2017 is drawing to a close.  It's been one hell of a year.  I had my first successful Kickstarter and launched a new webcomic.  If you thought those were big achievements, just wait until you see what I plan for 2018.

First, I'm planning a second Kickstarter for January 2018.  This will be launching on January 5, 2018 to fund a micro print run of Sunnyville Stories Vol. 4.  I'll have more news on that as we draw closer.

Second, I have set up Adsense on the Sunnyville blog and am working to pull in more traffic by driving awareness along with providing good quality content.  My goal for the immediate future is to pull in at least US$15 so I can cover the blog hosting costs.  Once that is done, I aim to build from there.

Third, I still would like to illustrate (and maybe write) a children's picture book.  I have a few ideas crazy enough to work.  I may share more information about that as time goes along.

Fourth and finally, I'm working on something else that is top secret.  You'll find out what that is eventually.

That's all for now.  2017 was an amazing year; may the next one be a fruitful one for me!

I may as well share 8 facts about the cast of my webcomic Tiffany & Corey - both the main characters Tiffany and Corey along with the supporting character Alessandra.

1.  Their full names are Tiffany Bloomfield, Corey Humboldt and Alessandra Gladbrook.

2.  The characters last names?  They are all named for cities in the US state of Iowa!

3.  Tiffany was named after the 1980s pop singer of the same name.

4.  Corey was named after 1980s actor Corey Feldman.

5.  Alessandra was named after Brazilian model Alessandra Ambrosio.  Her character was inspired by Brazilian actress, TV show host and singer Xuxa Meneghel.  FYI, Alessandra is half-Brazilian on her mother's side.

6.  Alessandra's physical appearance was influenced by the Grey Spy from MAD magazine feature Spy vs. Spy and Sunny Miami from the Pixar short film Knick Knack.

7.  Tiffany's favorite sport is baseball but also plays golf.

8.  Corey loves to go swimming in pools and beaches but hates baths.
