Where've you been?

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 30, 2012, 12:41 AM

Wow I'm really not active on this D:

Thank you for all the faves I've gotten lately. If you're a new watcher, sorry I don't update much (understatement) but most of what I've done is unfinished or just sketches, and I don't think you guys would be interested in those.

So I'm on sick leave at the moment 'cause I had some epic surgery. Doing alright now, but still need a while for my ab muscles to strengthen again. I now have a six inch scar from my belly button down. Crazy times.

I'm going to be at the hq London devMeet today. So if you're going I look forward to seeing you there!

It's apparently my Birthday on Thursday(?) not sure how that came around so fast O_o.

Aaaand I'm going to be going to Denmark soon, any suggestions on where to go?

This has been the briefest of brief updates.

I got engaged to cei- yesterday :aww:

Alright so gonna be moving to London at the end of July.

Really looking forward to it and going to be there for at least four years :)

Not really sure what else to say I'm not that good with journal posts I generally don't think people are interested with what I have to say D:

How are you today?

Right so it seems to have been around six months, time for a new journal to mention that I'm not dead yet.  I'm just not producing anything I'm happy with (or much of anything generally) I need to get out of this slump!

How are you all? What are you doing these days?

I'm still in Dundee at the moment, where it's been ridiculously snowy which messed the post up for the whole of December and January, so much so that I still haven't received the christmas card my mum sent!

I'm also not working for Caffè Nero anymore, so currently unemployed, yay!

What helps you get over art block?

Hope you're all well, sorry I've been kinda a crap deviant to watch!

Dundee

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 27, 2010, 5:29 AM
:iconmaxwell-heza:

Alright so I know it has been a ridiculously long time since I updated my journal here, this is partially because whilst I am not creating any art to upload here I feel a little silly posting journal updates.  I've never really been a big journal writer, so most of my updates are in the form of status updates on Facebook or Twitter but I've started a Tumblr which I find easier to contribute to than most other online journal formats, it is maxwellian.tumblr.com if you're interested.

So what's new since I last posted?  Well I'm still at Caffè Nero (found out it's a descending accent not an ascending one) which still takes up a lot of my time but I just find myself unable to draw very much outside of it when I do have time.  I am a Shift Leader there now and have been since February and I have lost an additional 5kg or so in weight.

I'm only going to be working here until the end of July though as in August I will be moving to Dundee with cei- before that I have time off work from the 2nd until the 11th of July which encompasses my birthday, if you want to see me before I disappear to Scotland, this is probably the best time.

Still contemplating a webcomic, but I would like to be able to draw anything first really, so it has taken more than a little bit of a backseat.

If any of you know anything about Dundee, good places to go, art shops etc, I'd love to know about them as all I know is the things I've been googling recently :3

I hope you guys are all well and thanks for still watching me even though you're not really getting much out of it these days.

That's all for now!

Mmm working life

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 8, 2010, 3:21 AM
:iconmaxwell-heza:

Yeah so I'm largely inactive artistically at the moment, if I had anything to upload it probably would only go up on nakedteaparty rather than here anyway, due to it's likelihood of being raaahbish.

Working at Caffé Nero takes up pretty much all of my time at the moment, I'm just about starting to cope without feeling completely permanently exhausted now, so hopefully I can progress further in to actually being able to do things with my "free time" soon.

I've done my Barista Induction now though, so I should be able to get my black T-shirt soon and move on to becoming a Shift Leader soon after that, when that happens I get a payrise (yay) which would be lovely.

Looks likely I will be with Nero for some time though, even after we move where ever it is we're going next, in order to have a job there I'm going to try and transfer, even if it is to a Part Time position, a job is better than no job, I have learnt this from my own stupidity in the past.

I have however lost 9kg now, down to 80kg, such is the result of lots of physical work and no time/no want to eat whilst working.

Still thinking of stuff for webcomic, not going to be starting it any time soon though.

As ever, micro-updates will be through Twitter & Facebook as I can do these on my phone and I don't often turn my computer on these days.

Jobs and Such

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 6, 2009, 12:22 PM
:iconmaxwell-heza:

So awesomesauce, I got a Caffé Nero job :)

I had my three training days Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week and I've got to do a couple of full shifts over the weekend which I'm slightly intimidated with but I'm hoping I can manage.
I quite enjoy the work, the only thing I'm having trouble with is remembering all the orders and being fast enough at the same time as being accurate. But I think it will probably develop over time.

In other news, I've been under 85kg for a couple of weeks now. I can't really see any difference at all, but I do feel like it's easier to walk it's just less effort.  (was previously 89kg for anyone who cares)

This is a rather general heads up that I might be around rather less than I should like. I'll still update twitter and facebook statuses but probably rather little else with any kind of frequency, so if you need to get hold of me, you can get it through there.

Still hoping to work on my webcomic though.

Cardiff Meet - Saturday 11th July EDIT

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 8, 2009, 10:34 AM
:iconmaxwell-heza:

Meeting at 12 Noon in or outside of Cardiff Central Train Station. See you soon!

[EDIT]: If it rains there will be a change of location, which will be decided on the day but is likely to be the Natural History Museum/The Grass Verge outside it. Please do not go straight to either place but meet at the train station or phone me on the number I've given you.

To those from CosplayCymru note this is not being organised as a cosplay meet and it is unlikely that many will go in cosplay (this proved to be fairly isolating for those who did so at the london meet).

Alright so Pickled-Poppy and I have been thinking about doing another Cardiff Meet.  It would be on Saturday the 11th of July and would be a picnic thing in Bute Park like I did two years ago.  Games etc to be brought and we'll get food like before also.

Anyone interested?

I May Have a Tutu

Journal Entry: Tue Jun 9, 2009, 11:14 AM
:iconmaxwell-heza:

(Title credit goes to zilla774 )

BA (Hons) Illustration 2-2 methinks, from trying to work it out from my grades.  I get confirmation of this on the 25th.

I'm quite pleased with that considering all the problems I've had over the last three years I kinda thought I might not have even passed so I'm a rather happy Maxwell. :)

I signed up for Jobseeker's allowance today, don't get it for maybe two weeks but I doubt I'll get a job that quickly anyway.

Because I didn't get in to any of the teaching courses I'm having to rethink my career somewhat majorly.  So for at least the next year and a half I just want work of a variety, not too fussed where it comes from but I'd prefer it to enhance my CV somewhat if possible.

Should give me some time to do some drawings.  Working on an idea for a webcomic still.  Will take some time before it's up or even scripted but it's forming in my head.

But for the moment I have my girls to keep me company:

• Applications Update

Okay so no one wanted me for a PGCE so I'm hoping that I can just get a full time job.  I've become increasingly uninterested in teaching as time goes on and I find out more about it.  I don't particularly want to be forced to work all day and all night preparing and teaching things that I don't agree with.  Stupid National Curiculum.

So maybe I will do teaching some day, but probably somewhere I can be free to teach what people really need to know and not what they're "supposed" to.

• May

My teacher has pushed my deadline date back to the 14th of May, which is shocking and rather pleasant as it gives me a lot less stress but obviously means I'll be working into May, which I didn't originally want to be but whatever.

To those people who won my contest last year

I still haven't heard from any of you on what drawings or prints you wanted.  Please comment here or note me? Araniel, WolfSkullJack and kafine

Noes, not dead

Ah, dear, I should probably update this thing every so often so people don't think I've gone missing :V

So my application for UWIC has been put on "stop" which is a thoroughly annoying thing which happens when the university you're applying to decides they want more than the allocated time (two weeks) to decide to either give you an interview or tell you to bugger off.  So I am very much in limbo here.

I'm going to be applying for an Art Technician position in Abingdon School, and any others that are around as I can't honestly see UWIC taking me after having had my application for nearly two months now.  Hopefully I'll get the job.

Going to take up running.  Need some nice running shoes.

---

May

Okay so come May, I won't have any more uni work to do.  I intend to get a full time job and draw lots more.  If I don't, I implore you to give me a good virtual kicking until I do produce some work.

I intend to get round to my outstanding commission to leaf-lover and doing quite a few more.

They will likely be fairly inexpensive and small.  Please let me know if you're interested.

  • Drinking: Squash
So I didn't get the place in the interview, which is lame.  But they had many nice things to say to me.  They said they nearly never take people in my position (straight from uni without actually having a degree first).  That they felt I needed to have a year's more experience in teaching and to improve my subject knowledge but that I would become a great teacher and they hoped I'd reapply next year.
  Which is nice :)

I've got to see what the University of Gloucestershire says about me now, I could still get on a course.

[Edit] Gloucestershire is full, application forwarded to UWIC

p.s. If I've thanked you for a fave twice, I'm sorry, but I've got 270 still to get through and because I'm so quick at it, I'm being prevented by dA's anti-spamming methods!  So it's taking me a while and I'm forgetting who I've done before.

So, had to be done from raygirl :

All you have to do is go through my gallery and pic the ONE picture in my whole gallery that you think defines me best...then post a comment with a link to the pic. You can say why you think that's my defining pic, but you don't have to if you want the pic to speak for you

The only catch is you have to then do this in your own journal...not much of a catch really

--------

Update otherwise:

So I have an interview for the PGCE: Art & Design (teaching) Course at Oxford Brookes on Tuesday.  But I was very upset to find out on Friday that they're already oversubscribed and that even if I have a good interview, I'll be on a waiting list.  It's only five or six people, but it still means that even if i do well, I might not get in.
So I need to apply to GTP as well, and the deadline's not far away.

Taggings!

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 21, 2009, 3:15 PM

Ohnoes!

I was tagged by zilla774

Post these rules.

Each tagged person must post 8 things about themselves on their journal.
At the end, you have to choose and tag 8 people and post their icons on the same journal.
No tag-backs.

1. I am AWESOME at Disney DVD Trivial Pursuit, excepting on the Herbie questions, I never want to see that film so they get skipped.  When I've played in the past, I generally have to cheat and get a question wrong in order for anyone else to have a go.

2. I am afraid of depth (aka heights & deep water), I burn easily in the sun.  Beaches are not a fun place for me.  I've spent my life making things out of sand.

3. I love ferryboats.

4. I am related to Sir Francis Drake via one of his siblings ( he never had children) but then again, so are a lot of people.

5. Until my appendectomy in summer 2007, the only time I had been to hospital was to remove a chickpea from my ear when I was about 5.  I put it there, we were making pictures out of dry peas/pasta and I just did it. No I don't know why.

6. I have floaters in both of my eyes ( Wikipedia: Floater ) The one in my left eye I've known about for longer and is called Alfred, the one in my right is Hillary.  Can you guess who they're named after?

7. I currently read 49 webcomics.  It will be 51, when I've read up to date on the two new ones I've added.  Some of these have stopped but I keep faith that they might continue someday.

8. My attention span isn't that long.

TAG anyone who reads this and hasn't done it NERR

ESPECIALLY cei-!

Oxford devMEET - Saturday 15th November [updated]

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 31, 2008, 3:16 AM

Finalising!

I request that, if you can confirm attendance at this time, you do so.

Saturday 15th November: We will meet outside Oxford Rail Station (or inside if it's freezing) at 12:00pm Midday.

We will then find food for everyone who hasn't already eaten, there is a café in the Ashmolean that we might go to.  We will also go to Laser Quest at this time to determine whether we can have a game there or not.

Visiting the Ashmolean Museum is free, Laser Quest is £5 each.

We will probably wander around town a bit as well, visit Ben's Cookies and Moo Moo's (if anyone's not yet feeling cold enough).

At 5:30pm or there abouts we will go our seperate ways, hopefully having had an enjoyable day.
