"Wait, what?" Lucy responded, her tired eyes widening.
"The wind like--swooped in and took her! I mean, she has angel wings, so she could've gone out by herself, but I'm sure she was taken," I explained, shaking as goosebumps formed all over my body. "Come on. We should go look for her. Before the teachers wake up."
Lucy sighed. "Alright, but if something bad happens to me I'm blaming you."
"I'm taking that as you refuse to walk on the ground. Alright, I'll carry you."
I carefully opened the door, making sure not to make a sound. I carried Lucy out and we wandered to the woods that were near our cabins. The Euorian sky was so dark, it was hard to see. But I did see a silhouette of a figure holding another figure. I realized I forgot to bring my flashlight, so I called out, "Who's there?"
There was no response, but the figure moved as fast as wind. I could hear a familiar voice call out 'help me...'. It was Roselyn. I grabbed the figure as fast as I could, but my hand was bitten. The figure flew above me, and said, "Leave me alone. I'm hungry."
I tilted my head. "Hungry? Wait--are you a vampire? But the only vampires at the school are...wait...you don't go to our school? Who are you?" I could feel Lucy shaking and I tried to calm her down by quietly humming.
"My name is Daphne," the girl replied. "I don't know who the vampires at your school unless they--wait, Michael and Virgil?!" she asked, coming closer to the point I could vaguely see her facial features. She had long, swooping purple hair, blue skin, dark blue lips, and red eyes. Roselyn was cradled in her arms.
"Michael and Virgil Vell?" I asked, nearly losing the ability to breathe.
"Those jerks," Daphne responded. "I hate them. Gosh, I was just hungry and I can't have a meal without those jerks being in the same area as me? I don't want them around! I've always wanted to enjoy my life without them. They suck."
"Are you related?" I asked, now sitting down.
"My half-brothers," Daphne responded with no emotion. "I hate them. Michael especially. Virgil's just a whiny baby. He refuses to drink blood in public or find himself a snack. Someone else always has to do it for him." she sighed intensely. "Here, you can have your friend back. I'll go elsewhere."
I took Roselyn, who was in a weak state. Her neck was slightly bitten, but nothing intense. I used my shirt to cover up some of the blood, which helped the injury calm down a little, but not all the way. I carried both her and Lucy back to the cabin, and went to sleep. When I woke up the next morning, when I stepped out the cabin, I was taken off of my feet and was suddenly in a tree in 0.5 seconds. Michael was in front me, strangling my shirt.
"What's going on?!?" I asked, pulling his hands off of me.
"She's here, isn't she?" he asked with an expression on his face I'd never seen him make before.
"Who are you talking about?" I asked, although I had a guess.
"My stupid half-sister. I know that scent. I wish she'd get out my life forever. Until I die," he said. "Which...will never happen but I want her to leave me alone! She always gets what she wants and abuses Virgil for not 'being a man'. She's only like--nine in vampire years but she's vicious, Max. Do not trust her. She will suck every last drop of blood out of you when she gets the chance."
"If she gets the chance," I responded with a smirk. "Dude, I saw her leave last night. It'll be okay."
"I can still feel her presence! I smell her scent! She's here!" Michael responded, losing his cool, which did not happen often.
I sighed. Normally I would know what to do, but I didn't. Who am I kidding. I barely ever know what to do. So I trusted my instincts. I had to take care of her for him, even if it meant I'd become a snack, or a vampire myself. But saving Michael's sanity was more important than my feelings.
"Alright. I'll take care of her."
