Stamp - Migraines by MauserGirl Stamp - Migraines by MauserGirl
I've had a request to make more "support" ribbons for various causes, so I'm just going to use my ribbon template and knock them out tonight. If there's a specific one I've missed that you'd like to see, please comment or send me a note, and I'll see what I can do to add it.

Burgundy is the awareness and support ribbon for migraines.

Most people refer to any bad headache as a "migraine", but that isn't actually correct. Learn more about migraines with aura, the most common type of real migraines, on the Mayo Clinic website at [link]

This one is kind of close to home for me as I get aural migraines (migraines that present with an aura). Mine vary, but most common they present with visual disturbances - kind of like looking into the sun, except the sun spot doesn't go away - and are followed by sensory disturbances such as numbness and tingling. I do take medication for it (Maxalt), which is fantastic - knocks it right out within about 30 minutes.

My hubby is the same way it's terrible.
He become sensitive to light, sound, and temperature.
He normally stays in bed and throws up sometime during the day/night.

It annoys me so bad when my family claims they have a migraine when I know, and they know, that's not true. (they've seen me with migraines) They use it as an excuse.

OMG, that would freak me out.

I used to get the kind that was just tingling, numbness, and word confusion, followed by nausea and vomiting. Now I get the visual kind that's a little like having looked into a bright light where you get that spot of brightness (except it doesn't go away), followed by the tingling and numbness. Those are bad but I can still see and do stuff.

I get them very very often now, and they won't go away :( I'm on medicine for it but it still wont go away, i'm very afraid to go to the hospital because i've already been 3 times and it still hasn't worked, I'm scared i'll have to live with it. I normally vomit 3 times a day, and when im practicing for band it hurts, the sound and the air ((clarinet)). I just out of the blue started getting them.. everytime i look at light there's a spot in my eye for like 5 minutes, my head always tingles, it's just awful.

Also, if you're still doing these, may i request a Reactive Arthritis stamp? I feel like it isn't reconized as much, and it is a very painful disease that i have aswell. www.mayoclinic.com/health/reac… Here's a link if you'd like to read about it! Thank you!

I used to get them like MONTHLY with my period, a big reason I went on the depo shot. The only thing I wanted to do was shove a blanket over my head and curl up until it went away. :noes:
I hate people who think "Oh I have a slightly bad headache IT MUST BE A MIGRAINE!"

My friend gets them REALLY bad. She has a serious problem with them and can't afford the medical bills so she never goes to the hospital to try and get some kind of treatment. She's also allergic to the shot they tried to give her once to help her not have them anymore. I'll definitely be putting this in my widget on my journal page.

Have you talked to your doctor about medications? I get aural migraines (vision disturbances / numbness / nausea) and I have a prescription for Maxalt MLT. I put it under my tongue when symptoms start and it knocks it out pretty quick. I follow it by an over-the-counter Aleve liquid gel about half an hour later and that returns me to functional.

Mine are aural and the stuff he gave me doesn't work. It does great for sinus headaches but not migraines. I know the severity of the migraine based on the vision issues. The darker the spots, the larger the spots, the more pain I endure... Your meds sound amazing and ill have to bring that up because mine are debilitating. Even vicodin doesnt make a dent in them

I started getting migraines due to a head injury and have only been getting aural migraines with visual symptoms for a short time - previously, they were only with sensory symptoms (like numbness) and nausea. It freaked me out the first time I got a visual migraine. Mine come with bright, flashy spots, not dark ones.

I was not medicated for the longest time but I am so glad I talked to my doctor about meds. I actually learned about Maxalt from a soldier I worked with who was on it and had the same symptoms as I, and it did wonders for him, so that's the medication I asked my doctor about.

There is also an option of doing a daily medication (I believe it was Depakote, but am not sure) to prevent you from getting migraines if you get them very frequently. I get less than one a month - actually, last year, I had three all year - so that's not something my doctor recommended for me, but may be something you may want to ask your doctor about.

I dont get them all that often. I'd say between 4-6 a year. But when I do they are BAD. My last one was about a month and a half ago. I couldn't see hardly at all. My vision spots are like when you stare at the sun for too long and you get the dark black spots with the aura of color around the edges.. no matter where you move your eye THERE IT IS right there

Yeah, so a daily medication would definitely not be something you'd want. Do ask your doctor about the Maxalt, though. If you don't have high blood pressure, that may be a good one to go with. There are two types, one you take with water and the MLT one that you put under your tongue. It dissolves very quickly and doesn't taste bad.

The pill takes much longer to kick in than the melt, though, which is why I switched.
