Stamp - Army Wives Sucks by MauserGirl Stamp - Army Wives Sucks by MauserGirl
I think the "Army Wives" show sucks.

Why, you wonder? Well ... first, I don't think I've ever met any army wives who looked like the beautiful actresses on the show - even the good-looking ones look nothing like these gals. I've also never lived in military housing that looked a thing like the homes on the show do. And where's all the back-stabbing, cattyness, and girls who think they're wearing their husband's rank that populate the real Family Readiness Groups?

that show sort of made me feel uncomfortable. I think at this point, it's obvious the show was made just to glorify the title of "Army wives", rather than show the actual conflict of being one. I haven't even seen too episodes, but at the same time, I haven't seen too many scenes in the show that focus on the characters grieving losses, or hell, even wish their husbands came home safe. I mean seriously, REAL army wives don't wear their husband's rank like an accessory, or use it to act like they have importance. I do feel sorry for army wives and families sometimes, but that's because they are cheering on the people THEY LOVE, as in the soldiers of our country; and not themselves. I mean...  It's just an insulting show.

I just find the show stupid.

That said, however, I've met PLENTY of real Army wives who are under the impression that their husband's rank gives them rank. "Oh, it's so nice to meet you. Who's your husband? Oh, your husband is *enlisted*. Okay, all the other enlisted wives are sitting *over there*. This table is for officers' wives." Oh yeah, they're out there and there are MANY of them. I just kinda raise my eyebrow at them and snicker because I have a real life job and don't just sit on my ass at home and play pretend that my husband's rank = my rank.

I don't understand why so many Army wives have to parade their husbands rank like it would mean something to THEM. And it sucks because I know that there are officers' wives with jobs, a low profile, and a normal family. But unfortunately it's the archetypes like the women in Army Wives that I often see in the media. Why? Why not just show an actual army wife, or family. It would make an interesting documentary into the lives of NORMAL people who are simply waiting for their loved ones to come home, as opposed to the fictional drama that's on TV now.

Because they don't have any accomplishments beyond being an "Army wife." Don't you know that's the "toughest job in the Army"? :D And yes, there are NORMAL people who are Army wives, but there is a very large segment of the stereotype also. Sadly.

I try not to stereotype other people, but with such a large number of these women making a name for themselves, it's kind of hard to avoid :( Well, at least it gives me ONE MORE reason to set a goal for my job and college ^_^ to break the stereotype

I know, right? It seems that wives with a degree and a job are in the minority, unless they run a portable business like the many "photography" studios that spring up around military bases. Don't even get me started. Suddenly everyone with a DSLR is offering photo packages and producing bad pictures in auto mode. <-- this is why I do photography only as a hobby.

photography studios popping around Military bases? That's new to me :o Well, I'd rather learn about it, then slowly become apart of it before it's too late :P

Well, not "studios" per se, since most of them only do outdoor shoots at the local part and the vast majority own no back drops or lighting setups of their own. More like "available photographers." The Craigslist artists' section is full of army wife "photographers" offering "professional" photoshoots.

I've always hated that show. ~.~ It's boring, and unrealistic, as you said in the description. Pfft, the show Falling Skies is more realistic.

but enough of the good puncuation (spell fail), i hate dat show \o\

I know what you mean. I know my mom doesn't act like that and she is an army wife. Hell she used to be in it before I was born.
