Plugged In by MauserGirl Plugged In by MauserGirl
The ambulance is plugged in and charging. They're always plugged in when they're parked in the ambulance bay, keeps everything charged so it's ready when we need it.

Obviously taken with Instagram, but nice enough to share, I think.

Interesting. This implies there's a shootload of batteries on board for powering... stuff. :D

Can't the vehicle's engine keep everything charged?

Has anyone ever forgotten to unplug and driven off?

There's a boatload of stuff on board that is battery powered and that is charged while the ambulance is plugged in, such as hand-held radios, portable suction units, portable monitor / AED, power stretcher and its spare batteries, etc. etc. etc.

The vehicle's engine can keep those things charged ... when it's running. Sometimes, when we have quiet nights, we may not get a call for 9+ hours, so stuff needs to get charged to ensure it'll be ready when we do need it.

And I'm sure someone's forgotten to unplug and driven off before. (I haven't. And it's not happened while I've been there, yet, but I'm sure it has happened before.)

Ah, for the days when an ambulance was actually just a borrowed hearse and the most-used piece of equipment was the dashboard cigarette lighter.
