Description

Amy Lee, from the American gothic rock band Evanescence, in bright watercolours! (A bit different from her common dark visual, ahah)

Wow! I took about 11 hours to draw and paint it, through the last 3 days.

Reference used: from WallpapersFans.com (but before drawing and painting, I cut the format and changed the contrast and colours in Photoshop to get more tones).

It was made especially for the Celebrity of the Month (December, last day!) selection of the group Celebrity Portraits.

First of all, this is my first critique of 2012! So lets make it a good one!!
I'd like to start by saying I really love the bold, bright colours. They aren't like the original photo but they work so well with Amy's expression. Her expression, to me, seems to say 'Here I am, lets cause some trouble!' and the bright colours remind me of fire which fits perfectly with that look.I like the fact that the shading isn't blended perfectly, you can still see the edges of each separate colour. It makes it sort of unique in that way.
I do think the colour in her eyes could be a little smoother though.
I just think it would give it more impact to have her eyes smooth and the rest standing out like 'BAM!'
I really like the red you used for her lips, it stands out brilliantly against everything else. Usually when I see red amongst all the orangey, yellowy colours the red doesn't really get noticed but you can definitely see that in everything else going on. You painted her smile really well. Amy has a bloody hard smile to get right but you pulled it off almost perfectly. I do think the right side (our right) of her bottom lip could be pulled in a little more. It just seems a little to far out to me. I've drawn the same photo, so I know it's a little hard to get right Of course, mines a pencil portrait, I could never get the hang of this type of thing!!
I think what I like most of the fact that her eyes are such a strong but light colour they stand out perfectly against all the firey tones. Like water or ice. It's a great contrast to the orange, yellow and red. I think the background could have been a darker shade of blue though, just to help make her eyes pop a little more. Overall, I'm loving it. I can tell who I'm looking at straight away, the colours draw me in at first glance and there's no way anyone could pass by without needing to stay an extra minute! Great job!
