  • Oh, why not:

  • How long have you been on DeviantArt?

  • 10 years

  • What does your username mean?

  • It's my real name. All the names I wanted to use were already taken and I got tired of trying to find one.

  • Describe yourself in three words.

  • driven, loyal, humorous

  • Are you left or right handed?

  • right handed

  • What was your first deviation?

  • What is your favourite type of art to create?

  • I try to try different methods, but I seem to be focusing more on photography now.

  • If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?

  • drawing on a tablet.

  • What was your first favourite?

  • What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?

  • Photography with fantasy elements

  • Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?

  • If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?

  • Never really though about that.

  • How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?

  • I'm inspired by many to do better in my own own art.

  • What are your preferred tools to create art?

  • camera and computer, or good old pencils and ink.

  • What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?

  • I'm still trying to to create that space, sadly. Trying to find an affordable studio space, preferably a live-in one, in the Boston area has been a life-long frustration.

  • What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?

  • Any time I get a favorable comment on some artwork. I wish people would comment more and not just "like" things.

Hope you're enjoying the shots I'm posting from my recent shoot with Sekaa, they seem quite popular so far! It was my first outdoor nude shoot, and it was a bit crazy getting to it, if you'd like to read more about it:

Unless something magical happens within the next few weeks, I have no reason to celebrate Valentine's Day this year, But I do have several works in that vein for sale right here on dA as prints and many other paraphernalia:

I feel that I should be adding my artwork to some groups, finally, to spread the images out further. DeviantArt is still not really "working" for me. But the number of groups on here is overwhelming. I ask you, please, for some suggestions as to which groups I should submit my artwork to?

Thanky

Maybe some of you recall I participated in this RAW Arts Showcase this past March. Well now they're holding some sort of contest for best artists of the year, the winner in Boston goes on to the semi-finals in NYC. I'm not naive enough to not see that it's more of a contest of popularity than one of talent, but I thought I'd give it a try, y'know? Please vote for me at the page below, and you can do it once a day until next Wednesday, the 9th. If you don't believe in that one person/one vote thing, of course.

About a month ago I had the first model photoshoot in way too many years, with somebody I've wanted to work with again for an even longer duration. I'm quite pleased with how they came out. There was no theme really, just come over and we'll see what happens, different outfits and such. Not my usual "dark" style but whatever. I may go back into the shots and see if I can do anything further.

What I'd change (and will change): Seriously needed a backdrop of some kind, we shot in one of my near-empty rooms (luckily I have very little furniture), but I still had to remove some elements later in Photoshop later, although I am actually proud of that. I recovered a few shots from bad lighting, again glad of that skill, but I'd rather have the shots good to begin with. Will finally be learning more about that soon.

Plus Jayne was super fun to work with and I hope it doesn't take years for us to do so again. Go to the gallery and check the shots out!

I will be participating in the next RAW Boston Discovery showcase, March 3rd at Rumor. The date got changed because of an alleged snowstorm on its way. Why does it only snow on weekends around here??

This piece Matttowler.deviantart.com/art/… is going to be on the cover of an anthology from Circlet Press: www.circlet.com/?p=3777

I'm thrilled even if it's not a newer piece (I basically told them to go to my website and tell me what they liked).

I've been going through my dA gallery, deleting some things, and updating others. The updates are mainly re-uploading pics, as I originally had low-res copies of some before, in the interest of protecting from theft. I don't know if that's even possible anymore. But I'm glad dA has a watermark option now, for starters. Please go back and check out my gallery again; I think there's a lot of details in photos and drawing that weren't there before now.

Exciting art news too, that I'll reveal when I get all the details.

I've found that November has become my least favorite month. After Halloween, my favorite holiday, how could there not be a letdown? And the beginning of darker and colder days. Even though I'm a night person by nature, there's something depressing about waking up in darkness and not getting out of work until it's dark either. It's just emphasizes how much a day job takes away from your life. I don't see any replacement on the horizon yet, although truthfully I haven't started searching in earnest. Like anybody will tell me, I'm lucky to have a job in these times, but I don't feel "lucky." And a better job (better PAYING) would certainly help in the apartment quest, which still continues.

That said, positive things: I had artwork sold in the past month, am keeping creative at least in little ways, and will be starting soon on a new piece for a December show. Started saving up for a "real" camera, too, so I don't some day "rescue" one from a tourist. Seriously. What are you taking pictures of?? Buildings?! When will you *ever* look at those again??

Still in need of a better apartment/studio. Neighbors have moved out, somebody new has moved in already. I was hoping to have it empty for at *least* a month. I feel panic attacks in my future if this one turns out to be as noisy as the others (although truthfully it's more the crappy apartments that's the problem. Get me out of here. And soon.

Being trying, still, to crawl out of my creative doldrums. A lot of it still has to do with my apartment, which still does not inspire creativity, plus it was broken into a few weeks ago, which makes me like it even less. But I've been making a point of "forcing" myself to at least sketch, especially since I need to create something for an art show this month. I've been keeping a blog on the creative process; please check it out!

I have taken off pageviews on my dA page, as that doesn't really matter in the end, and have often said that I really don't care about getting a Daily Deviation, but you know, I wouldn't be *terribly* upset if somebody out there would nominate me for one. ;-) I certainly could possibly return the favor, you know.

I've noticed that some people make their deviations available for download while others do not. My way of thinking is that if people can download your images, why would they buy any of your prints? Not that I've sold ANY. :-P What do any of you think? Do you intentionally choose the download option or is my mentioning it here the first time you've known about it, ha. I'm trying to figure out more and more how to make dA "work" for me. Also, whatever happened to the cellphone wallpaper option?
