Later-Years Leonidas

Here’s a thing – it turns out that the hot-tempered lion king from the Disney classic Bedknobs and Broomsticks is actually named Leonidas. I now can’t shake the mental image of him kicking David Tomlinson down a big hole while yelling “THIS! IS! NABOOMBU!”

But anyway. This piccy was inspired by some sketches that turned up on Twitter a while back (oh yes, I now have a Twitter account, for reasons that have yet to be satisfactorily explained. You can have a look at it here, if you want) by a couple of corking artists known as Iaido and Affogato Poom, depicting a middle-aged version of Tony the Tiger (you know, him off the breakfast cereal) being all burly and jovial. They got me wondering what King Leonidas might look like in his later years, and thus the above image happened. I used it as an opportunity to try out some new pens for the linework, and I’m really rather chuffed with the results; indeed, doodling this boisterous bruiser was a great deal of fun in general, so I dare say you may get to see more of him around these parts. Time will tell!

Indeedy! It doesn't seem to have made him any less boisterous, though.

Oh... those True Blues are going to be... BLACK and BLUE! (cue rim shot followed by a cricket)

If the True Blues have got any sense, they'll be frantically trying to recruit the Fisherman Bear onto their team. They were always a player short compared to the Dirty Yellows anyway!

I do have a couple of ideas for some other piccies in a similar vein, but not necessarily restricted to Disney characters. We shall see what transpires!
