It was to be just a simple joint activity so they could be together. He was simply supposed to drive the snowmobile behind her while she skied. He could have bundled himself up like a typical male with multiple merino wool layers under his fancy one-piece snowmobile suit.

She would have assembled their portable stove and cooked some fish for an outdoor lunch together.

Sure it was -35C weather (-31F), which is cold for males; however, there was almost no wind.

But nope, he had to wimp out. Wimp.
