The Trading Post
08.12.18. Now that the Trading Post has been operating for exactly a month, we'll be making some changes in response to some problems that have arisen since it's introductions. Comments can no longer be edited after a certain amount of time, so we ask that you post ONE strudel per comment, so that you can hide the comments after it has been traded off. Posting multiple in the same comment causes confusion if you cannot hide just one strudel in particular. ALSO if your strudel is not on the masterlist, please post to the Can't find your strudel? entry on the StrudelCupboard (https://www.deviantart.com/strudelcupboard) to help us find any missing babies! We're super quick about updating!

Very sorry I wasn't able to respond quickly to the last batch, ATs are open for a short while but I will be moving soon so it might be subject to some delay, for the same reason I might also not be able to do too many trades qq ATs are accepted based on  -How I like your art style (not necessarily skill related)  -How I feel able to draw your character  -Character designs and how they might inspire me  -Will do anything for good friends This following section is important! i really really really want to see more ppl experimenting with their art, esp in the wings of fire fandom (i love u all but please. Please. stop copying realtense) so this is what i'm going to do to encourage that. what is the challenge? draw something out of your comfort zone! if you usually draw w lines, try lineless. if you usually use muted colors, try bright ones. if you usually draw standing poses, do an action pose. throw some cubism in there. go buckwild. genuinely just stretch yourself beyond your comfort zone and what is... well, 'fandom popular'; the ability to diversify your style is a strength, not a hindrance. what are the re

An interesting new feature. I'm thinking it might change the way artists interact with their viewers. Really shouldn't be subscriber only though, every artist deserves thoughtful input.

$10 sketches still available, or full commissions if you want.

that wouldn't be necessary if people cared more about quality comments

I almost wanted to quit deviantART when I found out the critique feature is for subscribers only. It feels as if they are telling us that only the privileged here can receive quality commentary and criticism, or can give them to others.

It just reeks of unfairness and elitism.

exactly, very off putting.

Just joining the "why the hell is this subscriber-only etc." crowd.

It looks good, but I agree that it shouldn't be subscriber exclusive. If they were just testing, it should be Beta Tester exclusive, anyway.

Well that's silly. Artists have been giving and receiving critiques before they created this critique system. And they're just going to keep doing what they have been doing: giving critiques in the comments section. Unless they void the ability for non-subscribers to comment, the addition of this new feature is really quite absurd. o__o

the difference is that the critiques show up on the critics profile page and under the deviation, above comments. It's given more prominence which I hope will encourage an increase in thoughtful criticism by subscribers and non alike.

I know nothing of this feature, and haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.

I think it's a great idea - just what DA needs... wonder if people will start posting WIPs and ask for input.

I suppose that if you're a subscriber and have thrown money at dA, you'll be less likely to abuse the critique-system for spam and stuff.. they probably need to test it out first anyways.

I think the positive notion is that giving critique is being encouraged! It's just more easy for subscribers right now.

Good point. But the artist can decide if a critique is fair or not, so there's an anti spam measure that's free too.

Very true! Everyone has the right to a thoughtful insight. But just that dA is doing some business here! So u pay money and the staff take pain to critique! But this feature should be made public to all!

Is it that you can only /get/ critique as a subscriber, or that you can only /give/ it? I hadn't seen anything about it until someone I watch got a crit.

i think only subscribers can give and receive crits. I could see if only subscribers could receive them, but limiting non-subscribers to comments alone seems unfair.

But then i guess there's nothing stopping people from doing critiques in the comment section. The subscriber benefit is that it shows up on the critic's profile.

I suppose deviantart needed desperately to come up with -something- to give the subscribers ever since easy browsing was given out to everyone ;)

(But yes, it sucks that it's only for subscribers)
