Luke Vander Vegan by MatesLaurentiu Luke Vander Vegan by MatesLaurentiu
Again one of my black and white, d&d related commission. This time a character, a bard and a diplomat, freshly out of the bath. As you can see the baths back then came with three lascivious young women :D I would have really loved the baths back then :P

Excellent work, sir.  All of your illustrations are worth staring at to find all the stories in them.  I love the line hatching you put in the wall masonry.

Thank you for the kind words.  :) Wall and stone cross hatching are still something I use in my pencil drawing in an attempt to give them a bit of "worked" texture.

It's working for you really well.  It must be a lot of fun as well.

I do pencil commissions so rarely these days, every one of them is a joy in itself. :)

What a lucky guy, hahahaha. You drew the women SUPER hot! I'm loving the look on his face, he's all proud and snarky, :giggle:

Well, the client has all the credit. I just tried and translate his description using my imagination of it. :D

Oh, of course- I commission artists all the time. Believe me, a lot can't translate what you want. Something about this, though, the way you did it, it just seems like whatever the client wanted, you MUST have done it justice. Your ability to portray what you've done here IS something to take a little credit for, too. ;)

Not more than I deserve. Plus, I had fun doing it myself. Not often I get commissioned for scenes so I try to have as much fun as I can with them. :)

A very strong scene, the cross hatching over the brick wall and the reflective surface of the water are a nice touch.

I tried to give the sensation of texture and the rough bricks vs the smooth water create a nice contrast keeping things well defined.

Bards. Always with the lascivious women. :D

Holy cross-hatching! Awesome! I love cross-hatching. You gave this just the right amount of details to set the scene but it doesn't over take the hero and his... fans. ;)

That was the idea :) I usually get too lost in detailing an image and give attention to all things that focus gets lost. With this one I tried my best to keep the focus on my main character. The nude girls can be distracting, sure, but eventually the eye is drawn to the bard :D

Indeed :D It would fit his personality I presume. As for the details, I had to hold back on the background so the character can remain just a little more detailed than the background to attract the eye.

Not really, its pretty simple to do 'tho you have to have some patience with it. It gives a nice chiseled stone texture to things and you can vary the pressure to simulate lighting. :)

Yeah! I can imagine the process being a wee bit consuming. Certainly gives the piece a lot of character. Good work sir!!
