Axel: Masks are a big part of many different cultures or entertainment. They can be symbolic, they can transform a green tunic kid into a fierce Deity.
Felix: Or they can just be on the side of your head and barely used at all!
Axel: Remember when I said masks can be symbolic?
Felix: Loco, the strongest Rook of MÄR.
Axel: And Maya Kamizono, the Demon Hunter of Gal Gun.
Felix: He's Axel and I'm Felix.
Axel: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to see who'd win, a Death Battle.
Loco:
<da:embed id="nD17XJezfnQ" profile="youtube" width="560" height="315">Axel: Everyone has their own little fairytale world. A world where everything in it sounds perfect...most of the time.
Felix: Of course, no fairytale world actually exists, except this one in particular that no one's actually heard about. This magical place is known as MÄR-Heaven. It's pretty average as far as fairytale worlds go.
Axel: Of course, without warning, some kid by the name of Ginta Toramizu suddenly found himself in this strange world. Though his physical disabilities such as needing glasses to see and having little to no strength were suddenly gone.
Felix: That's pretty cool. Eventually he would meet some pretty ok people, like a young witch girl named Dorothy, or ya know, some thieves. But what really matters right now was Ginta's meeting with Alviss, the guy who brought him to MÄR-Heaven in the first place.
Axel: Alviss went on to tell Ginta about a sinister group known as the 'Chess Piece', who tried to take over the land six years earlier. The Chess Piece held one of the strongest members within it, Loco. No last name.
Background:
-Name: Loco.
-Age: 32.
-Height: N/A.
-Weight: N/A.
-Chess Pieces: Rook.
-Was previously a Pawn.
-Has a small doll of her crush.
Axel: Loco was born 32 years before Ginta's arrival in MÄR-Heaven. At age 26, Loco was a Pawn, which if you ever played Chess, it is the weakest class of the game and likely the first to die. Following that sense, the Pawns in the Chess Pieces were the lowest ranking class.
Felix: She got a mission once where some Pawns had to attack an unknown town, but in the process, her Ring Dagger broke. Turns out, it was her only weapon. Things weren't all bad as a cloaked figure with a suitcase came across her and asked if she wanted it. For whatever reason, the case has some awesome powers or whatever.
Axel: The suitcase she had gotten contained seven Darkness ÄRMS.
Felix: Arms?
Axel: No, ÄRMS.
Felix: You mean that cloaked guy collected people's arms!? Holy shi-
Axel: THAT'S NOT IT AT ALL!............*Ahem* ÄRMS are powerful magical accessories and weapons that many characters in MÄR use to fight. However, the Darkness ÄRMS in the suitcase were more special than other ÄRMS.
Felix: The only downside to wielding all this awesome power is that Loco would experience reverse aging...bummer. Also...what's with the mask? Does it give her awesome demon powers or something?
Axel: No, actually. All members of the Chess Pieces has them and wear them. However, Loco doesn't wear hers unless it's a special occasion, such as during Phantom's revival. Most other times, she wears it on the side of her head.
Felix: Oh...well, it looks cool..? I mean, with the whole reverse aging thing doesn't help Loco in the looks department.
Axel: Actually, Loco's not really bothered by it. It could be because of her rather bland personality, but truth be told, she sees little significance with it and is more concerned with fighting others.
Felix: Oh yeah, this girl can fight people. Forgot about that.
Axel: Using her Darkness ÄRMS, Loco is capable of a variety of different things.
Darkness ÄRMS:
Ring Dagger:
-Not part of the Darkness ÄRMS, but worth noting.
-A ring weapon that transforms into a dagger.
-Was broken during the First Great War.
Negzero:
-A pendant Darkness ÄRM that paralyzes the target.
-Also causing de-aging on said target.
-No real way to break free from it without a Holy ÄRM or by immense will power.
Straw Doll (Spikes and Hammer):
-A Darkness ÄRM in a shape of a straw man.
-Hammer's the five metal stakes into ringed points on the straw man's body.
-Damages the opponent in a Voodoo doll fashion.
-Causes the user to de-age.
-Does have more Darkness ÄRMS, but she hasn't showed them off.
Felix: Damn! She has a Voodoo doll thing to kill people with! Or...ya know...severely damage them.
Axel: She is capable of killing opponents with the Straw Doll, but she doesn't do it all the time.
Felix: Well, Loco sounds like a person who's done some awesome things.
Feats:
-By far the strongest Rook.
-So strong that she's actually stronger than half of the Bishops.
-'Beaten' Nanashi.
--Although Loco realized that she didn't stand a chance in the first place was unsure of her victory.
-Is extremely intelligent, being able to solve things people deem unsolvable.
-Has been able to help out Team MÄR numerous times.
-Was able to survive in the battle of the unknown town without a weapon for a short time.
Felix: Say, she sounds a little...overpowered.
Axel: She isn't. Despite possessing Darkness ÄRMS, they don't do her any good when it comes to her physical body.
Felix: Like that time near the end of the series where Loco becomes a baby. Literally.
Weaknesses:
-Though she treats it like an inconvenience, reverse aging is still really bad for her.
-Has been outmatched many times in combat.
-Darkness ÄRMs are not unbreakable.
-Though rather durable, durability has a limit.
Felix: Poor girl. That reverse aging is just really not worth having some powerful Dark arms.
Axel: Darkness ÄRMS.
Felix: SHUT UP!
Loco: "These ÄRMs are no harm to Loco...since the side effect is loss of age."
Maya Kamizono:
<da:embed id="-arrBup8s14" profile="youtube" width="560" height="315">Felix: Take it from me people, exams are the worst, especially when you have to do something in order to complete it. Unfortunately, not everyone can get out of it, not even cupids.
Axel: This was the case for Ekoro, a student cupid whom needed to pass an exam. In order to do this, they must strike another with a love arrow that will help them find love in their life.
Sounds simple, but of course, it doesn't go according to plan.
Felix: See, there was a demon named named Kuron who was doing a practical exam, and they both had the same target, Houdai Kudoki. Determined to make Houdai find love first before the demon could complete their exam, Ekoro accidentally increased the dose of the love arrow 32 times than originally intended.
Axel: This made all the girls in school, teachers included, fall in love with Houdai.
Felix: I can see some benefits as well as downsides.
Axel: Most of your downsides are probably inconveniences. There is a larger downside to all of this, though. If Houdai does not find love by sundown, he will be destined for a life of loneliness. In other words, no one will love him, not even his own relatives.
Felix: Geez, what did he do to deserve this? And by sundown? Talk about bad luck.
Axel: Fortunately for Houdai, two girls were actually immune to the love arrow's effects. These were his childhood friends, Shinobu and Maya Kamizono.
Felix: They might seem like your typical waifus, but it turns out they're professional demon hunters. This would work out really well you'd bet because Houdai has that demon problem to deal with.
Axel: Maya in particular seemed to be a very...interesting person as well.
Background:
-Name: Maya Kamizono.
-Age: Unknown.
-Height: N/A.
-Weight: N/A.
-Professional demon hunter.
-Loves super hero movies and giant robot anime.
Felix: What's with the mask on the side of her head, though?
Axel: Oh, that? That's an Oni Mask.
Felix: A what?
Axel: An Oni Mask has different meanings to it. Oni are a kind of yōkai from Japanese folklore. They're variously translated to demons, devil, trolls, etc. An Oni Mask can often symbolize protection from bad luck in modern culture.
Felix: Uh...right...anyway. One look at this girl and you might think that she's just your typical love interest assuming you're going for her in the game. This chick can fight!
Axel: Now her sister often uses guns or even rocket launchers to fight demons, but Mays's choice of weapons...lean more towards the childish category.
Arsenal:
Paper shurikens and paper craft dolls:
-Mays's main weapon.
-Never seems to run out of them.
-Despite looking fairly harmless, they're good for fighting demons.
Houdai-kun:
-A Magic doll that regularly accompanies Maya.
-Can make clones of itself.
--Normally does this when is about to attack and explode from above.
-Not to be confused with the main character.
Her...words...?:
-Apparently, Maya can be so loud, she can use her words to hurt people.
-Words obtain a physical form and letters and can deal damage.
-Attack can also be used over the School's PA system.
Felix: And here I thought words can't hurt people.
Axel: Obviously being a demon hunter, Maya is capable of some great feats.
Feats:
-As a demon hunter, must've been able to beat demons before.
-Is durable enough to survive rocket blasts from her sister's rocket launcher
--Also her own dolls exploding on top of her.
-Can move faster than the eye can track.
-Survived being eating by a large plant monster.
Axel: There are some massive problems to Maya, however. Despite being a professional, she's lost to Houdai multiple times despite him having no formal combat experience. And consider, Houdai's only uses the Pheromone Shot, which gives them Euphoria.
Felix: That sounds like some kind of disease.
Axel: It isn't. Euphoria is an affective state in which a person experiences pleasure, excitement, or intense feelings of happiness.
Felix: Oh. Ohhhh....I see where this is going..
Weaknesses:
-Has lost multiple times to Houdai, who doesn't have any combat experience.
--Granted, Houdai did get some training.
-Was possessed by Kurona.
-Can't swim.
-Seemingly injured herself after falling off a tree.
Felix: Welp. This has been enlightening. I'm going to go on the internet and see if cupids exist. I'm not letting them make me go through this kind of shit.
Axel: Uh...ok? Not really anything that has to do with Maya per say. Regardless of her flaws though, Maya is not to be taken lightly, she is a professional demon hunter after all, and she has that title for a reason.
Maya: "...I'm going to save Shinobu-chan's destiny..."
