Peter: The light and the darkness has always duked it out in almost everything fiction, weather it be Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, or most video games.
John: But these two use swords that are practically alive! Link, the Hero of Hyrule.
Peter: And Nightmare, the Demonic Scourge of Soul Caliber. I'm Peter and he's John, and it's our kid to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to see who'd win, a Death Battle.
Peter: Link's origins are mixed up as well as confusing.
John: He was born in an island in the sky, the surface down below, a forest...twice, a island with his sister and grandmother, and more.
Peter: However, one thing always remains about Link, and that he is and will always be destined for greatness.
John: If you're confused about what we're doing, we're using a combined version of all canon Links, which means no Hyrule Warriors stuff. But at the same time, we're not using ALL of his items as there's too many to fit in one Death Battle, so we choose his more iconic and powerful weaponry.
Background:
-Name: Link.
-Age: 9 to 17. Mostly 17 or around there.
-Height: Varies.
-Weight: Varies.
-Race: Hylian.
-Bears the Spirit of the Hero.
-Has an unknown grudge against pots.
-Excellent at pinpointing enemy weakness.
-Has black holes for pockets.
John: Yeah. Link is sure as hell no push over. This guys has some major sword techniques.
Peter: He can do techniques like the Mortal Draw, Shield Bash, Fatal Blow, Helm Splitter, Back Slash, and more. And while his swings may appear to be slow, he can actually swing his sword really freaking fast.
John: Link has many swords, like the Phantom Sword, the Four Sword, normal swords, music swords, etc. But his most iconic weapon is non other than the Master Sword.
-The Blade of Evil's Bane.
-Houses the Power to Repel Evil.
-Acts a key to the Sacred Realm.
-Can shoot beams when at full health.
-Can use the Skyward Strike.
-Can break through evil barriers.
-Reflects magic.
-Can absorb lighting.
-Can be used as a...dowsing rod.
-Houses Fi.
-Indestructible.
John: Yeah. This thing's pretty op. But Link doesn't rely solely on his sword. He also has two shields; the Hylian Shield and the Mirror Shield.
-Indestructible.
-Deflects magic projectiles and energy based attacks.
-Reflects light and absorbs fire and ice.
-Shoots the fire and ice it absorbs.
--If it absorbs both, the elements will nullify each other.
Peter: He also has many other different options for defense. He does wear a tunic with chainmail, but has other tunics suitable for different situations. Also, he likes to wear capes and other accessories often.
-Protects against very hot temperatures such as inside a volcano.
-Can walk on lava for a short time.
-Reduces fire damage.
-Allows Link to breathe underwater indefinitely.
--Makes Link more vulnerable to ice and fire attacks.
-While Worn, Link becomes invisible and invulnerable to attacks.
-Uses Magic power for usage.
-Let's Link glide through the air.
-Makes Link lighter and extremely agile.
-Can make Link withstand over 1000 tons.
-Can lift things from rocks, to pillars, or suplexing the planet.
-Weighs around four times Link's weight.
--Link can somehow still flip around with them.
-Makes Link slow and heavy enough to sink underwater.
-Works with magnetic fields.
-Resists heavy winds.
-Link can run at high speeds.
-Cannot change his direction under the usage.
-Can bypass quicksand and small holes.
-Takes about a second to charge up.
-Allows Link to walk on air via hovering for a short time.
-Makes him slide around like he's on ice.
John: Oh, don't think for a second that we're done here. Link has a bow and with a crap ton of arrows.
-A standard bow.
-Can fire up to three arrows at once.
-Has a maximum of 99 arrows.
-Arrows have the range of a small town.
-Acts like a sniper scope or telescope for the bow to make it a somewhat sniper rifle.
-Fire Arrows can melt the coldest ice.
--Lights torches on fire...as well as enemies.
--Powerful enough to warm an entire island that would freeze you just by going near it.
-Ice Arrows can freeze the hottest fires.
--Capable of freezing water, lava, and cooling an entire volcano.
-Both arrows use up a bit of magic.
-Can easily pierce through evil armor and barriers.
-One-shotted Phantom Ganon.
-Can temporarily stun Ganondorf.
-Uses up moderate amount magic.
-Like the Light Arrows, but stronger.
-Can kill Ganondorf rather than stunning him.
-A bomb attached to an arrow.
-Makes explosions of regular bombs, but deadly with range.
Peter: Speaking of bombs...Link...he has those as well.
John: Oh yeah, sure. Can't buy milk because he's under age as a child, but using bombs? We're suddenly all for it!
-Can carry up to 99 of these.
-Timed-based explosives.
-Strong enough to blow up walls.
-Can be thrown or rolled.
-Can only carry 30 of these.
-Works underwater.
-Can carry up to 99 of these.
-Move in a straight line until it detonates or hits something.
--Can move on walls.
John: We're done, right? I think that's everything.
Peter: Nope.
John: Ugh...now I know how Cole felt with Yu vs Ragna...
-Normally an Australian hunting tool.
-Will always come back to Link when thrown.
-Stuns enemies for around 3 seconds.
-Can pick up objects.
-Can lock onto five targets.
-Same basic mechanics as the normal boomerang.
-Makes a miniature tornado when thrown.
--Can use its wind to bring enemies towards Link.
--Capable of putting out fires.
-May actually be alive.
John: Ok. I think we're done now.
Peter: Nope.
John: ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?
Peter: Like a famous DC super hero, Link carries around tools to get him around.
John: He has a grapple hook, a Hookshot, and a Longshot. But his more preferred tool from all of these are his Double Clawshots.
-Can latch onto certain objects and can bring items to him.
-Can be used repeatedly one after another.
-Can move up and down if attached to a celling.
John: So this guy isn't only Robin Hood and Batman, he's also Spider-Man!
Peter: Link is also very good with magic. He has a Magic Meter that allows him to...use magic. However, if he abuses it, the magic meter will run out. Although it can recharge itself in a matter of time.
John: And Link has the tendency to use his long...smooth...trusty rods to help him out.
Peter: WHOA! JOHN!
John: What? I was talking about the magic rods he uses.
Peter: Oh....
Magic rods.
-Can shoot out small fire balls or large columns of fire.
-Melts ice.

--Or can summon four ice blocks over someone.
-Temporary hardens lava.
-Makes a mini tornado to stun opponents for around 1-3 seconds.
-Lifts up sand to make platforms or to stun enemies.
--Hard enough to walk long.
--Lasts for a long while.
--Works only when there's sand around or in a desert like environment.
-Has a small effect on dirt.
-Can still stun enemies.
Peter: You're not going to believe it, but there's more magic items for Link!
John: Shoot me now.
-Creates a dome of fire that can light up an entire room.
-While activated, Link is invincible.
--Cannot attack under its use.
-Eventually wears off.
-Can teleport Link to a set point.
-Other than that totally useless.
-Covers Link in a pink aura.
-Makes Link invincible until Magic Meter depletes.
-Unlike Naryu's Love, can attack under its effects.
Medallions
-Casts a lighting bolt spell.
--Freezes enemies...for some reason.
-Can alter the atmosphere.
-Link stabs his sword in the ground, creating an earthquake.
--Can turn its enemies into....slime. Somehow.
-Doesn't work on airborne enemies.
-Casts a Fire-based spell followed by several explosions.
-Sets enemies on fire.
John: We're finished now, right?
Peter: Almost. Over the course of Majora's Mask, Link collected a crap ton of masks. Though we'll be only going over Link's most powerful mask, the Fierce Deity's Mask.
-Turns Link into Fierce Deity Link.
-Doesn't have a shield, but gains a Double-Helix Sword.
--Is twice as powerful as the Master Sword.
--Can shoot energy disks from it regardless of how much health Link has.
-Canonically defeated Majora.
Peter: And...well...
John: You want to say it, don't you.
Peter: Yeah, but it was already said. I would just be copying them.
John: So? It's Death Battle. Does it really matter if you're copying someone if it's the truth?
Peter: That's...a good point. Anyway. Defeating Majora may not sound that great, but trust me, it is.
John: Majora was able to pull down the moon from its orbit.
Peter: The energy required to pull of such a feat ranges from 25.813 petatons to 1.087 exatons. I'm going to stop there for now.
John: So, Fierce Deity Link is pretty damn OP.
Peter: Not enough? Well, Fierce Deity Link is more powerful than the Four Giants who held up the moon without straining.
John: But, one of Link's greatest things in his arsenal is the Triforce of Courage.
-One piece of the Triforce.
-Gives Link some protection against evil magic.
--Protected him from turning into a lost soul. But it turned him into a wolf.
-Grants Link 'untold mystic abilities'. Most of which are unknown.
John: And because of these things, he's obviously gotta have some amazing feats.
Feats:
-Saved Hyrule and other lands for over ten generations.
-Defeated monsters hundreds times his size.
-Very versatile.
-Was able to wield the full Triforce in Skyward Sword.
-Can wrestle Gorons.
-Can stop a bull charging at him...as well as several Gorons.
-Survived an explosion that blasted him far enough across part of the Great Sea and hit the Tower of the Gods.
-Fast enough to beat Onox, who's faster than lighting.
-Strong enough to pull down Gohma with nothing but a grapple hook.
Peter: But of course, no one is without their weakness.
Weaknesses:
-Relies heavily on his items.
-Arrows and bombs are limited.
-The CDI games....just....the CDI games.
-Overuse of Magic Meter can deplete it faster.
Cole: That's...not a lot.
Peter: Well. That's Link for ya. Anyway. No matter how tough an enemy is, Link will more or less come out victorious.
John: Welp. Let's see the competition.
Link: *Slashes Ganon twice before stabbing him in the face*
John: Almost every sword we've seen is either awesome, normal, or just bland.
Peter: But one blade in particular caught our eye.
John: Enter Soul Edge. One of the biggest sword to ever exist. Rivaling even that of the Buster Sword.
Peter: It turns out though that this sword is alive, possessed by a demon know as Inferno.
John: Unfortunately, being a living sword had its downsides. In order to conquer the world, Inferno needed a person good enough to wield Soul Edge and conquer the world for him.
Peter: Several unfortunate souls were corrupted by the sword, including a pirate. However, known of these people were the right warrior Inferno was looking for. But, that changed when a man named Siegfried showed up and wielded the demonic blade. He was then, slowly but surely, transformed into the demonic being known as Nightmare.
John: But things don't always last forever, and Siegfried was able to separate himself from Inferno's grasp. Man. What a pain. These guys could've had a fun time together. What would make Siegfried stop being an awesome demon?
Peter: Well, he did terrorize Europe for several years, killed many people regardless if they were innocent, and was mentally tortured.
John: Oh...
Peter: Anyway, despite not having a living person wielding the blade, Inferno was able to re-animate Siegfried's discarded armor and declared to hunt down Siegfried and spread his rain of chaos once more.
John: Man. What a badass.
Background:
-Height: 5'10"/178 cm.
-Weight: 336 lbs/152 kg.
-AKA The Azure Knight.
-Personification of Soul Edge and Inferno.
-Remembers the fighting style of all previous Nightmare's.
-Length: 6'1"/185 cm.
-Vessel of Inferno.
-Can take various forms depending on the wielder.
-Malfestatuon Curse.
-Is sometimes missing four fragments.
-Supposedly indestructible.
John: Oh. He has multiple stances. That's pretty cool.
Peter: He has many fighting styles that give him an advantage over his opponents. He normally channels fire through his sword, but that's not all Nightmare has to offer.
Signature moves:
-Grim Stride.
-Dark Reconquista.
-Death Lord's Vengeance.
-Death Lord's Annihilation.
-Bloody Lord's Invasion.
-Ether Lord's Carnage.
-Grim Lord's Auto-de-fé.
John: If his opponent isn't already dead, then Nightmare has the ability to devour souls with Soul Wave. Capable of devouring hundreds of souls at once.
Peter: And as stated, Soul Edge has been fractured to the point wear four pieces of it split apart.
John: He was able to find the first three, but for some reason, the fourth piece just so happened to be forged into a holy blade known as Soul Calibur. Huh. Now I know where the name comes from.
Peter: But Nightmare was able to obtain that last piece. When he did, he was able to transform into Night Terror.
-Can now fly with fire wings.
-Can shoot purple lasers from his head.
-One shotted Zasalamel, who was thought to be unkillable.
-Can utterly destroy a soul.
-Uses moves that Nightmare and Siegfried use.
-Has a flying stance that automatically repels attacks.
-Has an seemingly unblockable eye-beam projectile.
John: Talk about power! Not even reality warpers, like Algol, would dare face Night Terror.
Peter: Though on a rare occasion ifNightmare falls, Inferno will come out to finish the job.
-Can mimic and improve on any fighting style he sees.
-Can summon whatever sword he desires.
-Can transport him and his opponent to the Astral Chaos.
-Capable of possessions alive or dead bodies.
-Capable of reality warping and fire manipulation.
John: Well...holy crap. How does anyone best this guy!?
Peter: Well...many can. But most end up dying.
John: And his feats are a pretty damn good reason why.
Feats:
-Defeated an entire army in a single night.
-Obliterated Ostrheinsburg Castle in a single blow.
-As Dumas, thruster Europe into a continental-wide war.
-Killed Tira.
-Ripped a hole through dimensions with Soul Edge.
John: Ok. No way. NOW WAY this guy can lose to anyone.
Peter: Well, he obviously can. If he couldn't, well, then the world would be screwed already.
John: Good point.
Weaknesses:
-Inferno's existence is dependent on Soul Edge.
-Soul Edge can be broken by Soul Calibur or other holy weapons.
-Tends to underestimate his opponents.
John: Man. That's not a lot of weakness. Oh well.
Peter: It's hard to imagine a man or woman capable of even lasting a second with Nightmare.
John: With this much power, I want to question how Guts beat him.
Peter: Who knows. Well, Wiz and Boomstick know. But that's beside the point.
Nightmare: "Blood! Darkness! I shall draw the world in both!"
