Mastersword: Have you ever thought what it would be like to be a god? What you may experience, feel, and think?
Cosmiischillin: To be an object of devotion or the subject of psalms! It’s gotta be tough to be a god.
Mastersword: It sure is, but today, we’ll be looking at two who’ve experienced things from a different lens, and who’ve had the aid of some very familiar faces.
CosmiisChillin:
The Discarded Conscious.
Mastersword:
The Cloaked Reaper. I’m Mastersword and she’s Cosmi, and it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who’d win, a Death Battle.
CosmiisChillin:…Did you do this because one is named A and the other has a Z in their name?
Mastersword: No.
A:
Mastersword: It takes a lot to survive in the world of Aionios. The two factions of Keves and Agnes battle a never-ending war, while vicious foes called Moebius run the show from behind the scenes, controlling both sides of the conflict. Powerful monsters lurk in every corner of the world, ready and able to take down any who draw near.
Cosmiischillin: And yet, life outside of those elements persist; that of…the City. Just City? The City? Really? That’s the name of this setting?
Mastersword: Well it’s called that probably because it’s the only one that exists in this world, and every other settlement are called Colonies. While never truly living in peace thanks to the world around them, the people of the City managed. Not only did they have their own military force, they also had a trump card against Moebius; the power of Ouroboros. This power was wielded by the hot-headed Mathew Vandham, as well as his sister Na’el, both of whom were being trained by their grandfather.
Cosmiischillin: They even branched out and established new settlements to live at. But like all canon events, it didn’t last. The City was attacked by Moebius, leading to its destruction, the death of Mathew and Na’el’s grandfather, and the disappearance of Na’el herself.
Mastersword: Mathew himself was severely injured during these events and would’ve likely died. Lucky for him, he was found and nursed back to health by a mysterious girl who went by a simple name; A.
Cosmiischillin: A? Like Alice? Abby? Alex?
Mastersword: No, just A. It’ll make sense….I think.
Background:
-Name: A.
-Aliases: Ontos, Alvis.
-Class: Monado Fencer.
-The consciousness of Alvis.
-Can play guitar.
-Likes: Mathew, Shulk, Rex, the Liberators.
-Dislikes: Moebius, Z, Mathew’s shenanigans.
Mastersword: With the City and its people gone, Mathew and A would travel around Aionois searching for Na’el and City survivors. In the process of doing so, A would train and often lecture Mathew to better improve his techniques and styles. Before long, though, they’d run into new allies that would be instrumental in their journey. Nikol, a Keves Soldier, and Glimmer, and Agnes one. And during a battle against Moebius, they’d find themselves teaming up with the Liberators, lead by Shulk and Rex.
Cosmiischillin: Even with their new allies, they’d have to fight against the wild life, Keves and Agnes soldiers, and even Moebius. But despite being a Healer, A is no slouch in combat.
Mastersword: Like most people in Aionios, A wields a Blade and can use Arts, but her weapon in particular is familiar; The Monado.
Cosmiischillin: You mean the same one Shulk had?
Mastersword: The very same.
Cosmiischillin: No but which one? Because you said Shulk had the red one, but when he become a god, he got a blue one. But he gave up both, and got a replica red one.
Mastersword: It’s the non-replica red one. Only, slightly different. pulls up the Box of Many References Here let me show-*tries opening it* It’s locked?
Cosmiischillin: Yeah, I locked it after your first Monado incident and the burn you got from the Sword of Fire. It’s the most advanced lock in the universe.
Mastersword:…It’s a child lock, though.
Cosmiischillin: I stand by what I said.
Mastersword: Right, well uh, the way A handles the Monado is very different from when Shulk wielded it. Taking on a Healer role, A uses the Monado Fencer class, focusing more on swift strikes and evading attacks rather than brute force like Mathew.
Cosmiischillin: Or like you when you try getting the lock off.
Mastersword: I resent that.

(Note; It’s not clear if A’s visions can be used a limited amount of times in battle outside of gameplay. A does say using her full power is taxing, but it’s not clear if this extends to her visions or not)
Ouroboros Powers: Created by Nia using her Core Crystal and energy from Origin. Summons a translucent apparition and grants the use of Fusion Arts. Like with the other party members in Future Redeemed, A’s Ouroboros power is incomplete.

Cosmiischillin: With new allies, A and Mathew would find survivors and bring them to Colony 9 to protect them, but they still found no sign of Na’el…until she came to them. Only, she was drastically different, being far more powerful than she was before and sporting a red Core Crystal, like those sword girls from Smash Bros, and Malos. Na’el was now an Avatar of a being known as Alpha, and after their encounter with her, questions were raised; Who is Alpha? Who is A really? And more importantly, what is even going on!?
Mastersword: To explain that, we have to talk about how Aionois came to be. As it happens, Aionios is comprised of the worlds that Shulk and Rex hail from, and the whole reason Shulk and Rex’s worlds were going to merge is because they were originally one at the same, split apart by a man named Klaus who underwent an unauthorized experiment using a powerful object called the Conduit and a computer known as the Trinity Processor.
Cosmiischillin: The Trinity Processor was comprised of three artificial intelligent biocomputers, who we should be very familiar with. Pneuma, the female persona, who we know as Pyra and Mythra. Logos, the male persona, who we know as Malos. And Ontos, the one who’s meant to stand in-between, who we know as Alvis.
Mastersword: Alvis would reside in Shulk’s world, with Mythra and Malos residing in Alrest. But after Shulk wished for a world with no gods, Alvis reverted into his Core Crystal, which would be used as the basis for the creation of Origin. This was done in preparation for the collision of Shulk’s universe, and Alrest, the universe Rex and his friends resided in. After Origin was seized by Moebius, leading to the creation and manipulation of Aionios with the sole purpose of benefiting Moebius, Alvis returned.
Cosmiischillin: Buuuuuut unlike the man who helped Shulk save his world, this one was no longer the same. Discarding his conscious and becoming more machine than man, Alvis proclaimed himself as Alpha, one who would shepherd the new life born in Aionios and lead them to a new world. And that discarded consciousness took shape and became known as A. Which is a very dumb rebrand! It’s literally just your first initial!
Mastersword: Well, Moebius use the letters of their first names, like N or Z.
Cosmiischillin: Right, so, A is Moebius as well?
Mastersword: Nope. She has nothing to do with them.
Cosmiischillin: Then why is her name-
Mastersword: A disagreed with Alpha’s views and goals, as she isn’t just Alvis’ consciousness, she’s also the memories and faint recollections Alvis had with Shulk, and the time before that as Ontos. To her, all life is worth saving, and no one deserves to be left behind. With everyone’s goals aligned, they would set out to stop Alpha once and for all.
Feats:
-Found Mathew after the City’s destruction and nursed him back to health.
-Defeated Nikol and Glimmer.
—Nikol and Glimmer would later on defeat Shulk and Rex, both of whom weren’t holding back.
-Killed Consuls Q and R, then destroyed two Flame Clocks.
-Together with Mathew, Nikol, and Shulk, fought against the Colony Eta Forronis.
-With Mathew, Nikol, Glimmer, Shulk, and Rex, defeated Consul W after he merged two Ferronises.
-Has defeated soldiers from Keves and Agnes.
-Has defeated plenty of monsters and Fogbeasts.
-Rescued all remaining City refugees.
-Can get rid/break out of certain status ailments with enough effort.
-Fought against Consul N, who was able to harm Alpha’s Avatar, Na’el.
—N would soon survive a full blast from Alpha after said fight.
—N was also in possession of the Logos Core Crystal, one of the members of the Trinity Processor.
-Fought against Alpha.
—Shulk and Alvis (Alpha) drifted from Saturn to the Moon in 1 minute.
-With Mathew, Nikol, Glimmer, Shulk, and Rex, interlinked using their Ouroboros powers and defeated Alpha.
-Together with Shulk and Rex, became the new avatars for Origin, sustaining it for generations.
Cosmiischillin; To do this would require a group effort, of course, as no one is at their strongest on their own. No really, a lot of A’s abilities and strongest attacks cannot be done unless she has allies. Even some of her Skills are specifically made with allies in mind, making them useless in a 1-on-1 fight.
Mastersword: The other thing worth noting is that, because A is just the conscious of Alpha, she’s not as powerful. Still comparable to her fellow party members, but she doesn’t have all the same powers Alpha does. In fact, her Visions can actually be cancelled by him via Monado Purge. A also can’t use her full power forever in combat, as she says it takes a toll on her, though we don’t see the extent of this.
Weaknesses:
-As a Healer, is more suited to a supportive role.
-By herself, cannot perform Chain Attacks.
-Arts need time to recharge before use.
-Prefers not to use her full power too often, as extended use can be taxing.
-Her Visions can be nullified in the battle against Alpha via Monado Purge.
Cosmiischillin: Things came to close once the party reached Alpha within Origin. Utilizing their powers of Ouroboros, they were able to Interlink together and deliver the finishing blow to Alpha. However, with him gone, Aionios would soon collapse without an avatar to keep it going.
Mastersword: So together, A, Shulk, and Rex stepped up to be the new Avatars, entrusting the new worlds future to new heroes until the day would come for Moebius to finally fall, and for the world to be set right. And by the way A is an okay name stop giving her grief for it!
Cosmiischillin: ITS LITERALLY THE FIRST LETTER
Mastersword: THERE’S PROBABLY A GOOD REASON, I JUST DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS!
A: “What we did, and all that concerns Origin, will become but a dim memory…Nevertheless, our intentions will live on, and one day coalesce again. Be it tomorrow…or in a thousand years… Surely, the time will eventually come. I can see it, clear as day.”
Zen:
Cosmiischillin: Culture festivals are a very common tradition you can find just about everywhere during certain times of year. Even schools will host culture festivals, and Yasogami High is no different…except it isn’t.
Mastersword: Imagine a Culture Festival that doesn’t end, set in a school you cannot leave. That’s exactly the kind of setting Makoto Yuki and Yu Narukami found themselves in, along with the entirety of S.E.E.S. and the Investigation Team. Because it wouldn’t be a Death Battle by us if I didn’t shoehorn in Yu at every opportunity.
Cosmiischillin: Yeah you’ve been doing that ever since I tried human abduction 10 years ago
Mastersword: “Tried”? As in attempts? You mean I’m not the first!?
Cosmiischillin: It was a phase! Most of them cried or begged or said “I CAN COLONIZE MARS AND BUY TWITTER”! And they were really annoying so I dropped them back on earth. You were the only human I found who understood my love of Sonic!
Mastersword: I was mostly just surprised you knew who that was. Guess Galaxy Quest was more accurate than I gave it credit for. Uh, so anyway, thanks to the Velvet Room, both groups found themselves in Yasogami High’s culture festival. However, they couldn’t leave the school, there was some giant clock tower that wasn’t there before, as well as massive labyrinths filled with Shadows.
Cosmiischillin: Trying to figure out where they were and what was going on was difficult too, as no one really acknowledged their existence. No one, except for a cheerful young blonde girl name Rei, and a stoic spiked-collar plus cloak wearing man named Zen.
Background:
-Name: Zen.
-Aliases: Chronos, Zhn, Zin.
-Best used in the back row due to his weapons.
-The other half of Chronos.
-Has trouble expressing himself.
-Likes: Rei, S.E.E.S, the Investigation Team, collars.
-Dislikes: Shadows, FOEs, people who threaten/make Rein uncomfortable (mostly Teddie)
Mastersword: Despite being at the school before either group, Zen and Rei had about as much of an idea what was going on as S.E.E.S or the Investigation Team. Didn’t help that both of them were suffering from amnesia, which is an alarming trend in Persona games, but that didn’t stop them from knowing the labyrinths contained something important. That something being the key to their freedom.
Cosmiischillin: Amnesia is very popular, isn’t it?
Mastersword: Apparently. You got Zen and Rei, Teddie, Labrys, Morgana, Sophia, Toshiro, it’s a whole thing.
Cosmiischillin: These guys need to start adding doctors. Like, give us a therapist for a change.
Mastersword: They did. He turned evil.
Cosmiischillin: DAMN IT!
Mastersword: After becoming acquainted with Zen and Rei and learning they can battle Shadows as well, they all decided to explore the labyrinth, fight Shadows, avoid FOEs-
Cosmiischillin: Chase rabbits, shrink from a drink, go on group dates, getting stuck in the bathroom while a creepy doll stalks you, and use bad cooking as a chemical weapon. You know, your usual Persona antics.
Mastersword: Speaking of Persona, it’s time to get to the main point! takes out his notes Zen’s Persona is………………………..…it’s blank.
Cosmiischillin: Seriously? How!?
Mastersword: Yeah, I guess he doesn’t have one. No really, Zen does not possess a Persona. However, as mentioned before, Zen and Rei are not defenseless. Far from it, as they act as a duo. Being a unit that’s best positioned in the back row, Zen focuses on combat, wielding dual crossbows and using powerful and elemental Skills, while Rei focuses on support, suppling Skills which restore health, removes debuffs, binds, or stat penalties.
Cosmiischillin: And while both Skills use up HP or SP depending on the type, Zen has used different items or accessories to mitigate this.

Mastersword: Zen and Rei would delve to the depths of each labyrinths along with S.E.E.S. and the Investigation Team, and within each were powerful Guardians protecting strange objects.
Cosmiischillin: In You in Wonderland, they fought the Queen of Hearts and found a stuffed bunny. In the Group Date Cafe (don’t ask), they battled a clergyman and found a toy ring. Within the Evil Spirit Club, they combatted a distorted doctor and nurses (don’t ask again), then found a lock of gold hair.
Mastersword: And with every object found, Zen began to regain more and more of his lost memories, though Rei’s remained lost. But with final labyrinth, the Inaba Pride Exhibit, the Guardian inside changed everything.
Cosmiischillin: The final Guardian was Rei herself. Well, her suppressed feelings taking form into a Shadow Self, just like with every member of the Investigation Team. After a difficult battle, they prevailed against Rei’s Shadow and found the last object; a note saying “Rest in peace, Niko.”
Mastersword: With the last object obtained, all of Zen’s memories had been returned to him, only for him to remember why he locked them up to begin with. And it’s…a lot, so be prepared. Zen, as it turns out, is Chronos, he who has dominion in over time. One who was meant to take Rei away for her time in the real world was up long ago.
Cosmiischillin: In reality, Rei was known as Niko, who suffered from a terminal illness for years until she passed away without getting to truly live her life. Chronos, an avatar of Death, appeared to take her away. But instead of struggling or welcoming his presence, Niko remained silent. Chronos became curious and, to get a reaction out of her, recreated Yasogami High from her memories. While she did open up afterwards, she eventually broke, coming to a realization that she died without having lived-wow this is really depressing, can’t we go back to the Persona Valentine’s Day meme picture again?
Mastersword: Unfortunately we cannot. To stop her pain, Chronos stole her memories, and eventually sealed his own inside the four objects she had with her before commanding his minions to guard them from himself. He even separated his power into two halves, locking the other into the clock tower. Over time, the objects would give birth to the labyrinths, and Niko would become Rei, and Chronos would become Zen.
Cosmiischillin: With Rei’s memories returned, she still couldn’t come to terms with how she lived, and was forcibly taken from Zen to the Clock Tower, where his other half waited so that they may continue their role. However, Zen’s meeting with Rei, S.E.E.S., the Investigation Team, and their journey through the labyrinths changed him, and he wanted to give Rei’s life meaning.
Mastersword: With both Persona-wielding teams at his side, they would climb the Clock Tower to rescue Rei and stop Chronos for good.
Feats:
-Explored You in Wonderland with Rei before meeting S.E.E.S. or the Investigation Team.
—Has also fought Shadows by himself while protecting Rei.
-With S.E.E.S. or the Investigation Team, defeated the Queen of Hearts.
-Explored the Group Date Café, Evil Spirit Club, and Inaba Pride Exhibit.
-Defeated several Shadows and FOEs.
—Is fast enough to dodge Fire, Ice, Electric, Wind, Light, Darkness, and Almighty attacks.
—Used a weaponized Mystery Food X to one-shot an FOE.
-With help from Makoto or Yu, won the trading showdown against Teddie.
-Defeated the Merciful Clergyman, Kind Doctor, and Best Friend.
-Defeated powerful Shadows that guarded rifts.
-Defeated Elizabeth multiple times.
—Though she was holding back the first three times.
-Defeated Elizabeth while she was being possessed by the Persona, Zeus.
-Defeated Elizabeth, Theodore, and Margaret.
-Defeated the Reaper.
-Defeated the Clockwork Spider and saved Rei.
-Defeated his other half, Chronos.
—During their fight, was unaffected by Chronos’ time stops and time reversal.
Mastersword: Zen wouldn’t be able to do this alone, though. In fact, doing so would’ve put himself greatly at risk before he would’ve even reached Chronos. Despite regaining his support abilities he gifted to Rei, Zen is still lacking in a few areas.
Cosmiischillin: For one, he’s more suited to being in the back row during combat, being out-of-reach from enemies and allowing the focus to be drawn away by his other allies. He’s weak to Light attacks, his Physical Skills use up HP, and his Magic uses SP. And though he has plenty of items to use, they are still limited and can run out.
Weaknesses:
-Weak to Light.
-By himself, cannot perform All-Out Attacks
-Physical Skills use up HP.
-Magic Skills use up SP.
-Items, though plentiful, are limited.
-His best armor doesn’t grant the same debuff, status ailment, and bind protection as his other weaker sets.
Mastersword: Upon reaching the very top, Zen found his answer to Rei’s dilemma, and together with S.E.E.S. and the Investigation Team, defeated his other half for good and finally rescued Rei.
Cosmiischillin: And after all that time, Zen was able to give Rei the answer she wanted to her; Only her could’ve lived the way she did, change those around her, and changed as a result. There is only one Rei, and she lived.
Mastersword: After one last tour of the culture festival and saying goodbye to their friends, Zen and Rei depart into the Sea of Souls where they would fade, hand-in-hand.
Zen: “Even if you disappear, the world you were from goes on. But that world is the one you lived in. Even if only a little, it changed because you lived in it. You were there as a small cog in that world. A person’s life isn’t defined by grand accomplishments. You lived. Does that itself not give meaning to your life?”

Death Battle Blade vs. Corrin Prelude and Fight
Sheesh, when I said “soon”, I meant like, Tuesday or something, not a whole week. Anyway, the Prelude for A VS Zen is here! This honestly wasn’t as tough to put together as I thought, and I quite enjoyed listing everything they had.
A is owned by Monolith Soft and Nintendo. Zen is owned by Atlus and SEGA. I do not own the characters or music involved.
Wow, Mastersword, you put a lot of effort into this Prelude. I'm impressed. I can't wait for the fight to be done. As a suggestion, you should do Shadow Vs Meta Knight as your next Death Battle.
