What is MasterGIMPers?

MasterGIMPers is a resource and tutorial group aimed to help new and experienced users of GIMP to learn more about the software and snazzy things that can be done with it, and to provide resources for them to use. It is not a general Art Group.
And because this group is dedicated to providing resources and tutorials only please note:

:pointr:We're not taking art work!:pointl:

Please have a look at our affiliates like GIMP-Artists or GIMPArtistsUnite if you want to submit art.

Anybody can join, we'll be happy to see many dedicated GIMPers here! Requests are accepted automatically.

Just go to the deviation page and hit the submit-to-group button on the right side, then select the gallery folder you want the deviation in and hit submit. That's it! ^.^
We'll then vote on the submission to be included in our gallery.

Note: We might not accept submission such as tutorials that aren't readable, lack descriptions and good pictures, are confusing, etc.!

If that's the case we'll let you know and give you a chance to fix it. This is not to be mean, but only to ensure at least a bit of quality for our members.
Have a look here and here to see how to write a good tutorial.

So I'm back from holidays :B

And here is a link I wanted to share with you all: the GIMP handbook
It's really interesting to go through and maybe you'll find something you didn't know yet :eyes:

Also, I wanted to thank Jibodeah for re-doing the group rules blog and cleaning it up so awesome! :tighthug: It's now a lot easier to get the important points :P

Oh and Geosammy let us know that he corrected the file type for his Gimp Rainbow Brushes so they should work now. Just in case anybody downloaded those before the fix :meow:

Need help!!!  Moving to a new computer where I installed the latest Gimp (2.10.22) but I cannot figure out how to find and copy the color palettes I created on the old computer to bring them to the new computer and gimp.  I am able to find the palettes folder but that only seems to be the default packaged palettes.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to learn more about how layers function in GIMP. It's what I struggle with at the moment.

Have you watched any of Davies Media Design Tutorials? He has tons of videos on Youtube. You can find him here….

I'm sorry that I'm just now seeing your question but maybe he'll be able to teach you something you haven't learned on your own since April 20,2020.

Good Luck

ok, im surprised that draw with jazza, decided that gimp was not a good program for artists to use, i have used it for ages and i love it. everything i have made and posted to deviantart was made in gimp, and everything on my channel, was made in gimp as well. i dont think he gave it much of a chance, anyone agree?

I'm not really familiar with "draw with jazza," but I will say, while I do still really like GIMP, there are better alternatives if you JUST want to draw. I prefer Medibang as a drawing program, and use GIMP primarily for image editing, or assembling GIFs. They're similar tasks, and sometimes overlap, but there are differences!

I'd say that GIMP and other open source softwares are good, with a capital G if you're the DIY type and don't mind getting your hand dirty and finding answers on your own. I tried GIMP 5 years ago and quickly gave up because I didn't understand how layer works. Now that I've become more patient, I constantly find some hidden tricks in GIMP that I didn't know.

I totally agree, GIMP is a good program to use, especially for those who prefer to use a free program. I recently discovered and understood basic principle of layers and this helped me to do this: Quench
It is completely done with GIMP, from colours to background. Some people should give it a chance in my opinion.

Hey the majority of artwork I do with Gimp and while I'm not trying to brag, but I think I brought out the best of my artistic potential using it. :D I colored and shaded all of this using Gimp.:aww:  Bowser Yoshi huggles on the Beach by Bowser2Queen   I may have done the line art on Bowser and Yoshi in Illustrator, but I always choose to ink things with that program, even over Photoshop because I love that it uses vectors, it makes the line art very clean. But yeah, outside of that, everything else was done in Gimp. Doesn't seem so "bad" anymore does it? xD

see? gimp can be really good, its mainly a learning curve thats the issue, i legitimately made this using gimp a day or two ago…
