The virtual words where mankind seeks escape are similar to the one from the movie Matrix (1999), which took the concept from decades of sci-fi novels and comics.
The Man In Black in panel 3 is Oscar Olsen, who was first seen in La prima volta di Mark (Italian only, sorry).
Olsen was already active in the 1960s, and he still looks as young as he was then.
