Snearsle

Now usually I'm as lacking in creativity as a snail when it comes up to mixing things like Pokemon together. I just tend to draw them as they are and introduce practically NO originality to them. But, *pokedorks had this really neat contest with Weird Pokemon Babies as the theme.

I was clueless. I didn't know what to draw. I tried a Sableye / Scyther combo by asking someone to pick two random Pokemon and it turned out awful. Then I thought of this kind of neat idea of a Sneasel / Smeargle mix and went with it and BOY DO I LOVE THE LITTLE FELLA!

I call this thing Snearsle or ニューブル (Nyuuburu / Nyubul) in Japanese. It is really hard to mix their two names together and get something that isn't only one letter off!

I have been trying to draw this little bugger for probably a month now and never got around to finishing any of the three billion* sketches I did of it. (* number exaggerated.) So, as per Marriland tradition, I buckled down at got it finished on the entry deadline.

I went back to using one of my old art styles, which involved printing a very-light sketch version on my computer, inking it, rescanning it, then coloring. Weird, yeah, but I was having a lot of difficulty getting it done any other way. The lines aren't as smooth as I would like them to be, because they aren't digital, but I'll have to deal with it.

Picking out a color scheme for this thing was hard, too! I really wanted to give it the creamy white Smeargle body color, but then it didn't look nice with the hat, so I had to make the whole hat brown instead of white like Smeargles. I think it finally turned out ok, but it did take a long time for me to settle on exactly what colors to use and stuff.

Too lazy to come up with a full blown Movepool, but I can tell you that this thing's types are Dark/Normal, and it learns moves like Sketch, Slash, Fury Cutter, and Lick.
