Deviation Actions

Fly Free

This is an entry in the "Similar, But Different" Game at ManipulateThis.  I selected the deviation below by Lora-Vysotskaya to recreate because I love the colors, the dreamy surreal effect, and originality.
I changed from butterflies to Halfmoon Butterfly Fish because I wanted the same kind of surreal effect but could not get the neck and flowers right, and then I had this idea so I went with it.  I a Bokeh effect over the piece because I like the extra light texture. Since I couldn't get the neck right, I decided to stay with long hair, which I painted over. I love doing hair anyway.

Let's Play The Similar, But Different Game!"Similar, But Different" is a Group Game Activity. It is NOT a challenge! You're not competing against anyone and there are no judges. All you need to do is participate and have fun!
:bulletwhite: I have set aside some special Exclusives Stock by Nobody, Nobody, and Nobody, and I will create a couple of image packs for brushes, as participating gifts for everyone.
:bulletwhite: We'll play from August 1st-Agust 31st.  You can play as often as you like.
Take A Completed Photomanipulation Created By Another Artist And Recreate It Using All Or Some Of The Same Stock And Resources, Adding New Stock And Resources, To Create A New Photomanipulation That Is Similar, But Different .
(Don't worry, we do have permission of the original artist to do this. ;) )
There Are Four Reasons Why We're Playing The "Similar, But Different" Game.

Let's see if my hands can hold out long enough to give you a real critique. <img src="…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>

I love the subtle differences that you made to come up with a soft surreal look. She is grounded among the flowers very well, and I love how you brought in the purple for a little accent and to add to the sense of radial balance. My only suggestion is the nearest fish. Even though this is surreal, for surrealism to really work, the image must be based on reality. If the first in the nearest foreground had the most detail, we would get a stronger sense of space and depth. You did very well of get depth in the image by changing the size and amount of detail of the other fish and background for that effect. Over all, you made some great choices and this came out quite beautiful.

TheFantaSim - Thank you for this most helpful critique!!! I always want to improve. I'll work on that suggestion later for sure!

Great! That's one of the reasons why I'm here.  I wish I could type more, I would go back to do more real helpful critiques.  I'm also happy that you're open to them. :)

Yeah, try what I suggest and you'll see what I mean.  I wrote about Space and Depth at the group (there's a link on the home page), and there are now some really great tutorials about it:
