So when I heard they were reviewing the Wiz, I watched it before the review, and compared my thoughts to theirs. Like I do with most of the Critic's reviews.
...This movie was all over the place, the King of Pop gets only ONE song number, the sets were as cheap looking as they were in Batman and Robin, what the hell was up with the whole TEEEEEEEN TEEEEEEEEN, TEEEEEN, TEEEEEEN thing? I had to fast forward through those parts. A tornado in New York City? REALLY? The fuck? Dorothy went from kinda nervous to learning to be brave to a whiny ass boring morther-The acting didn't feel real, as in I was aware that I was watching a movie the entire time, which is distracting, and did they really have to change the setting to New York? And I'm surprised the two didn't make comparison jokes to the real life crows to the crows from Dumbo, because they were like the same exact thing. Some of the musical numbers were ok, but it is just a BLAND BLAND film.
I'd give it my own personal rating of TWO THUMBS DOWN which means ( a terrible movie, but has SOMETHING good in it. Usually the music. Or one good scene. But you'll start to forget it in T-Minus 4 hours after watching it.)

Well, for some reason, this movie changed the Tin Man into an animatronic amusement park ornament, so I guess instead of rusting up, he was malfunctioning. That's why he was couldn't move at first, why he was leaking whenever he cried, and the whole "TEEEEEEEEEEN-AY-TEEEEEEEEEEEEEENAY" thing.

You've fused NC and Todd into one person. But it really doesn't say anything about the movie.

Can I just say that Todd's set up doesn't look like that anymore?

But this is pretty cool.

I really really really can't stand people that say Joel Schumacher is one of the worst directors of all time. Assholes that say that obviously saw Batman Forever, Batman and Robin......AND THAT'S FUCKING IT!. Hey idiots! watch more movies by Schumacher like The Lost Boys, Falling Down and Phone Booth and THEN tell me that he's a shit director >:C

uhhh...Yeah it's not just Batman Forever, or the thing with the bat credit card. It's a whole lotta stuff like the Wiz, Trespass, the Number 23, Blood Creek, among others. But he has done good stuff too like...A Time to Kill, the Lost Boys, and Phone Booth. But for the most part his movies are just...Not good.

Yeah, Falling Down was good. Phone booth WAS ok and Lost Boys was entertaining. It's rather a shame he'll be remembered only for a crap Batman Movie.

Ill say this in a Audience Retrospective....Its Shit, the 30s version OZ was a timeless Classic that everyone remembers from star to finish.

The Wiz is just Awful and its like being on Crystal Meth with no meth, The characters are bland, the songs are forgetful and having Michael Jackson and Diana ross to save it wasn't enough,
but on the other hand the Set Designs are Verry good and creative at the time, but yeah we can see why it failed and you people should avoid it at all cost's
and put on the Play version of it.

I saw this film many years ago, I didn't consider it a bad movie although it can never compete with "The Wizard of Oz" from the 30s. And yet, I think that was the point of this film: It was never trying to be. For what it is: The concept of having an all african-american cast, with it's own music, and stuff gave a unique twist on the story.

Though what the critics pointed out about the film is "partially" true and that some moments did look weird and all, it may not be the best "Wizard of Oz" adaptation or even to the staged musical "The Wiz", yet as is it "The Wiz" does a decent performance. Not the best and might not be a film likely to watch over and over, but it's still an okay film.

I was just in a stage production of this. It was a good performance, but none of us thought it was a very good musical. The songs were kinda lame and the jokes were hit-or-miss. I wonder what these guys think of it.

My problems with the movie.

1. I didn't get to know Dorothy that well
2. It felt rushed in some places
3. Some of the songs like the one where Dorothy comforts the Lion felt unnecessary

Todd says the the stage version is better. Is that true?
