A lot of people have been posting writing tips for newer writers or for people who just want to improve, and while I have a lot of tips, I'm starting with what I think is the most important rule of all of fanfiction. More important than characters development, more important than style or plot:
Write romantic, healthy relationships.
My piece of advice to writers new and old is look up healthy vs. abusive relationships and know the differences. I've lost count of how many times I've started reading a fic and the relationship will reek of abusive, unhealthy traits and it's played romantically. Just stop. Please. I'm not saying you can't write unhealthy relationships. By all means, go ahead. But don't romanticize it. It's abuse and shouldn't be glorified.
