The Fall poster commission by markwelser The Fall poster commission by markwelser
Here's a commission for a wonderful looking movie called The Fall. This is a movie that I wanted to check out for a while and was on our Netflix instant queue being neglected until I was given a reason to finally watch it. It's such a treat. I generally try to avoid directly using images from the films, but each of these 5 warriors were so distinct that there really wasn't any way for me to avoid it.

If you're interested in buying this as a print, please go here:

Thanks! I thought Roy and Alexandria were probably more important than the heroes in the story so there's no way I could have left them out. Glad you like it!

All my posters are digital. I don't know the first thing about doing screen prints.

what a great movie...why is it rated R?

I'm not sure--maybe because the guy was addicted to morphine? The violence and dead monkey? I thought I've seen everything in this movie in other PG-13 films.

exactly...the truth is that the Mpaa isn't consistent in its ratings because the folks that review/rate the films are never the same people...batches of reviewers. so if they don't get something, or if they have a personal hangup (like kids won't understand this or that) they give it a harder rating. the Fall was rated R...so was HOSTEL. go figure.

Cell is amazing as well. The main villain is something at the level of Hannibal Lecter. Visionary Evil, my favourite.

Hmm...nah. The intent was to have those guys be very striking and eye catching, which I think works well against the blue here. You can't help but be drawn to them. While I usually welcome and appreciate critiques and criticism over my work, this was done as a commission. The customer was happy with it so I stopped working on it. It's finished.

Tarsem Singh is familiar to me via both The Cell (yay, amazing effects and atmosphere, boo Jennifer Lopez!) and his video for REM's "Losing My Religion". I like this poster, now I should probably check out the movie, especially if Jonze and Fincher produced it.

The Cell is not a particularly great movie, but it's got some great qualities to it nevertheless. The "villain" of the movie is just amazingly menacing and majestic, and a lot of the effects are just really cool.

That mostly describes The Fall, too (except the bit about the villain). Great to look at, but the story is relatively pedestrian. I think if done any other director, this movie could very easily be ignored.

The film was intense, like Pans Labrynth ate Baron Munchausen and then threw up a shiny Time Bandits with chunks of The Cell thrown in for measure.

Poster is great. Quite unlike anything else associated with the film, and the charcaters look great :D

That's probably the most perfect way to describe this movie. Wow. You totally nailed it.

I felt the movie had enough of its own wild visuals that I couldn't just copy them, but I felt I did have to step things up a bit and be a tad more creative with the design. Thanks for the kind words, friend!

Cant wait to see more from you :D

Ahh...the ol "watch while you work" plan. I enjoy watching movies too much to do that. When I say "watch" I mean "actually watch and take in every aspect of the film" so it's tough for me to do that unless it's something I've already seen...or just listening to commentaries. I have a friend who watches movies/TV while reading comics at the same time. I don't know how he's able to do either of them justice with this method.

Yeah its a wierd one. I'm deaf in my left ear and partially in my right (Not stone deaf!), so I watch alot of stuff a couple times over (once on the headphones so I can take in the sound at full, and then again when i'm taking breaks to get the rest of it)

...but then some films are only worth listening too haha! There are some awful films out there ;)

Men can multitask, its not a myth ;)

True--some movies just aren't worth looking at. About multitasking, I can do it if it's tasks I don't care about. I guess it depends what it is I'm watching. Comedies? I usually don't have to pay too close attention. Heh.

Check out Get him to the Greek if you haven't already, suprisingly funny considering I hate Russell Brand!!

Here's the trailer:

It's about a movie stuntman who injures his leg and befriends a little girl at the hospital. He tells her this epic story in an attempt to get her to go sneak him some morphine.

The story is okay, but the real star here is the visuals.
