My modest contribution to a collection of art being done as a tribute to Sadako Sasaki

Sadako was two years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. The explsion blew her out of the window and as a result of the explosion and radiation, she was diagnosed with leukemia in 1955 and given a year to live.

Sadako's friend - Chizuko Hamamoto - came to the hospital to visit her, and cut a gold piece of paper into a square to fold it into a paper crane, in reference to the ancient Japanese story that promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by the gods. The story goes that Sadako fell short of her goal of folding 1,000 cranes, having folded only 644 before her death, and that her friends completed the 1,000 and buried them all with her.

Copic Markers, Prismacolor pencils and white paint on Acid free paper - 16.5 x 11.5 inches.

From one artist to another: Please read my message until the end. I would like to ask something of you. You drew a picture in regards to "Japan 2011-03-11". I would linke to use your piece of art for my project. I started this project on facebook, you will find it under Pray & Remember 2011-03-11 or follow the link. I don't want that catastrophe to be forgotten. Too many Japanese had to give their lives. I want to show them respect - the dead as well as the survivors. Let us both achieve something. Of course your name will be mentioned - it is your piece of art after all. Even if you do not want to participate in this project I would be more than happy if you had a look at the project. I am thankful for every member. I want to reach out to as many people as possible. I thank you very much for reading until the end. Thank you, my friend.…

I read her story when I was like 9 or 10. I still remember some exact words of the beginning of every chapter. I liked her character. She was all brave, fought for life as she loved it, though it was a total tragedy by its own. anyway, Thank you for this nice image of a remarkable memoryHeart

It seems you have put part of your (or Sadako's) soul on it because every time I see this pic it give me goosebumps!
Great piece for a powerful story… I hope it never happens again.
