So good. Working from a live model? It looks well observed, which is usually a bit tougher when working from memory or making it up. Very classical, yet feels very contemporary.

Thanks Alfred! I appreciate your comments. Yes this started with a live model.
I get together with a group every Thursday nights at Pixar in one of their art rooms.
We hire a model for 3 hour session for 6 weeks per model. I do most the finishing work
when I take it home. I'm still finessing it at this point
.

The model is a Very fit dancer. A bit angular so I tweaked the pose a bit to give
her more interesting curves and angles. I always start with the intension of keeping
the sculpt very loose but ultimately I end up refining the shit out of it.

Glad you like it!
Thanks.

It's a real beauty and your knowledge and observation skills show spectacularly on this piece. A real work of art.

I wish I could talk people into that kind of group down here. I've tried for years but have always been unsuccessful in making it happen. I blame it on L.A., it seems to suck the joy out of people. Everyone is so jaded. But I've spent my entire life here, and I've managed to avoid that trap. I just wish I could find a few more.

Cheers!!

Thanks again Alfred!

I'm so glad to be apart of this group and am grateful I was invited to join in.
It really gives me a great outlet to break out of my commercial sculpting box (bread and butter)
and start building up more of my own 'fine art'.

Wow. You know what really brings her to life for me, is your fingerprints giving her skin some texture and age. The muscle definition is also amazing!

Work in progress, I presume?  I can see tool marks on the skin, and was wondering if there was a smoothing technique regarding those.
'Artistic Nude', indeed, sir!

You can always brush the sculpture down with Turpenoid to smooth out the rake marks.

Ahhh....I wondered how you folks did that!  :D

Most likely I will not do that. You can really kill the energy of a sculpture by smoothing out the entire surface.
The rake marks and tooling on the surface gives the piece life.

Ahh, I see your point there.  I imagine if you looked at one of the ancient Greek or Roman sculptures, you could likely find a few tool marks here and there.
