Entering service in 1974, the Tomcat served as the US Navy's primary air superiority fighter and interceptor. It's primary weapon was the long range AIM-54 Phoenix missile but it also carried the Sparrow and Sidewinder missiles for short and medium range targets as well as being armed with an internal 20mm cannon. Steadily updated through the years, the Tomcat remained the Navy's main fighter for 3 decades. The Tomcat was retired in 2006 after 32 years of excellent service. This print features the F-14 Tomcat in the markings of Robert "Hoot" Gibson's airplane he flew with VF-1 "Wolfpack" in the 1970s.

How can I get a copy of this print?
My husband flew with Hoot  in VF-1 and his name is on this plane.
I would love to give this as a surprise to Ted.
Thanks Carol Wills

The F-14: the sexiest plane ever made by the US until the arrival of the F-22 :D

Gorgeous work as always, too bad that for some rotten assholes we cannot enjoy it in it's full-size glory.

A fun bit of historical trivia: The F-14 entered service just in time to take part in the very tail end of the Vietnam War.  Their first combat operation was providing air cover for the evacuation of Saigon, with VF-1 and VF-2, flying off USS Enterprise and USS Coral Sea.

This makes me miss the days of color used on aircraft...
That, and the CAG having a black Tomcat... (for whichever squadron did that...)
