A serial by Clifford D. Simak in ANALOG, from December 1972.
I was nine years old when I read the completed serial, and I loved it. Simak's vision of an Earth in the far future, heavily forested, mostly deserted wilderness, inhabited only by outcast eccentrics, mechanical wolves, and what seem to be ghosts, haunted me from the first page to the last. In all of the decades that followed, I never went back to CEMETERY WORLD; I was afraid that this book would never match my memories.
But I can look at these illustrations by John Schoenherr, and still feel the magic.
THIS IS NOT MY ART. I DO NOT OWN IT. I post a scan of this illustration to promote the work of John Schoenherr. For best resolution, download the full size by clicking on the image, allowing it to load in its own window, and then saving it, or (if you are a member of DeviantArt) by clicking on the Free Download button.
