Description
I saw many dust storms come in when I lived north of Phoenix back in the '90s. They're absolutley amazing things to watch. Very creepy. Being inside them is another experience.
Of course, this largely makes me sound like an idiot.(I probably am!! )..
... I'd open up my garage door wearing a full facepiece respirator, set up a lounge chair inside (obviously), kick back and watch it blow through. Not, of course, actually going outside and into the storm, but watching it from the safety of my temporary observation post... you don't go out into the storm. While not nearly as dramatic as movies and TV where they scour a person to the bone in seconds, they do blow enough to be quite uncomfortable (he said in an understatement).
Watching them roll in is just... cool.
This is wild weather, to be sure. On the heels of climate change, the storms have only been getting bigger and bigger, lasting sometimes for many hours.
Sometimes the storm is accompanied by lightning.
The storm pictured here is bigger than any that I ever witnessed in reality... so consider it artistic license.
If you've never experienced one, I heartily suggest that you should vacation in a place where you can... (seriously) Just like I really want to experience a hurricane... (how stupid does that sound?)
