Anti Plagiarism stamp by MariposaBullet Anti Plagiarism stamp by MariposaBullet
This is for my anger outlet...

I've been seeing bunch of plagiarism all over in this world (in both amateur and the professional world)... I won't point out fingers, but if you ever run into any one of them, you will know what/who I'm talking about. How dare for people in the professional world especially to plagiarize... SHAME ON YOU ALL!

Feel free to post this stamp in your journal/stamp collection if you're AGAINST plagiarism and art theft. I'd very much appreciate it if you :+fav: first.

**If there are people who trace existing images or photos, there's gonna be people who steal other artists' work and claim them as their own and post them on their personal sites or blogs, and even people who completely rip off of famous masters' work and make money off of them (like the son of the famous what's his name)... I seriously can't believe it.  I can't believe the people who do all kinds of heinous acts like this and call themselves "artists"... truly disgusting. So disgusting that it makes me want to vomit.**

Thank you for the comment and you're welcome! Glad this stamp was what you were looking for! :D

Oh no! It sucks that happened to you; I'm really sorry. :( What's even vexing is that you weren't able to find the culprit (dang it, justice needs to be served). :shakefist: I friggin' LOATHE art thieves. :rage I even hate it when people just take your artwork and re-post it on other websites WITHOUT proper credits and link backs to the original (when they edit the images, it makes it 9000X worse). They do it like people's artwork are free source. :x Yeesh, whatever happened to common courtesy and online etiquette? I had people rip off my work, steal it and use it for trading cards, and even had somebody tell me in the comments that they were going to steal the concept. What's worse is they follow it up with a smart-assed insult after having a nerve to boldly tell me that they were going to take it (such audacity).

Seems to always be the way, meet someone, get chatting and realise you have a lot (even stamp choices) in common. 8'D

Yeah, I wish I'd found out who it was too... someone posted a picture of mine on Pinterest (but I'm not bothered as it links back to my account here).  The only thing that got me was the tags.. XD Rather odd to say the least.

I can't stand the thieves not the plagiarising that is RIFE these days.  I get it, some people draw transparent line art for folk to colour and give permission.. but others don't and I wonder how many are flat out stolen.  Perhaps I'm old? But I don't deem colouring in someone else's work as "yours" - I mean, if you coloured in a colouring book, they're not your drawings...? o_O?  It's everywhere though, irritates me as I'm sure these "tracers" can draw for themselves if they can colour work.  Argh, sorry.. I have more and more peeves the older I get. X3

EH!? How can someone tell you they're going to rip off your idea and then throw insults?! O____O I do not get people today.  Their atrocious spelling and grammar aside, the population of the Internet, by and large, are a bunch of idiots.  Common courtesy and etiquette died in the late 90s.

:highfive:

Yeah, as much as I'm not too keen on people re-posting my work, as long as there's a credit and a link back to the original, I try not to fret too much. I'm glad Pinterest allows that. Oh no, not the tags! That's like when people faving work here on dA and then putting it in folder with a weird name (had it happen to mine before). :noes:

Right. I won't be surprised if a lot of those colored work are stolen. If people happen to use something that doesn't belong to them, they need to provide proper attribution, but people like to make it a point to suck these days. That's why I make put fat watermarks on my work (even though some people really hate it... group admins included -_-; ) and type detailed descriptions with explanations and credits to whatever reference, or source I use (textures, pose, brush). Ah, it's alright. These have been a pet peeve of mine too for yonks. :meow:

I dunno... someone who is just a flat out, rude and self-important jerk? In this particular case, it was a concept for a writing, and I was already inspired by someone's work, but I gave credits and link back to that person's page and work (I even contacted her and asked beforehand for her given concent). But this other person crawled from under the rock said they're going to steal it and use it too. Since the concept wasn't fully mine to begin with (since it was already inspired from somebody's), I'm not going to fully gripe about that part. What really pisses me off is the insult that they followed it up right away. There were two concepts and they said they're going to take one of them and not the other one because based on their knowledge, this, that, and the other, it's impossible and makes no sense (in short, they farted out the "Let me put you down and humiliate you so I can look smarter than you! Look at me, I know more than you do! :pointlaugh " attitude). Argh, oh my god... I apologize for the ranty rambling. :(

But the internet just keeps getting worse and worse... and yes, I totally agree with you about common courtesy and etiquette died in the late 90's. People in general were a lot nicer and things were very peaceful back then.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised either.  Especially the "manufactured" ones, by that I mean the ones with anime screenshots for backgrounds.  That is the epitome of laziness and ignorance to an extent to claim it as your own work.  Bugs me... I don't mind if someone uses one and states it as such but to try and pass it off as your own work when it clearly isn't.. nah.  Can't be done with liars. ^^  Much more fun experimenting and making your own backgrounds I think.  We all have to learn some way or another.

Urgh, that guy sounds like a complete asshat.  Why is this place riddled with them and why do they always find us? XD  Go away, tosspots.. please.  Don't apologise for ranting, needs must and I'm happy to listen. :)

Yes, as long as I've been on this planet, the common courtesy and being human to one another is twindling away in to nothing.  I'm happy there are people like yourself out there, there's still hope for the species! =3

Man, anime screen caps and a whole bunch of Disney artwork... I've seen a crap ton of the SAME artwork in which not only that people recolored/traced, but been sold on random merchandise on Ebay and Etsy (which clearly looked bootlegged and poorly mass produced). It's almost like people think they're clip art (when they aren't).

Yeah, I usually make my own backgrounds. As much as I HATE drawing environments, I'd rather challenge myself and be able to learn from the experience.

LOL, exactly an asshat! :XD: Man, I was asking that exact same question to myself too :saddummy: This is why I'm praying for dA to develop a super advanced blocking system and some privacy feature (I'm sure that'll make so many members happy). Aww, thank you!

Aww, likewise! :D I see dA and a lot of social media as troll haven and a collapsed civilization infested where people are killing each other. But when I meet people like you, it's like seeing a single beautiful flower blooming in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, which shows me hope in humanity! :happycry:

Seascapes, sunsets, woodland.. those are fun but cityscapes or bloody vehicles.. XD NO!!  Still, like you, much rather make my own than steal something from an anime or a Disney film, where someone will inevitably recognise it.  Someone I thought I knew on here has shown their true colours and I've had another look at their "work" - it's mostly traced with stolen backgrounds.. I don't call that "artwork" at all.  But as my Ma always says; "you can go off people".  Very true...

Oh yes please.  I'd love that if you blocked someone; they couldn't see your page.  I had a creepy stalker last year who would send his minions to message me... thankfully they stopped but only after I threatened in a journal to report them. >>!  Don't mess with me... I might turn green and SMASH your heads...  But yeah, a lot of that could have been avoided if we could block our profiles being viewed by those we ban.

"A beautiful flower blooming in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.." .... :innocent:  Wait until I let my darkside out.. XD Nah, I'm not the evil cow a lot of folk make me out to be.  But yeah!  Meeting people that I genuinely like and can have conversations with on here.. always a bonus. :3

Oh... HELL... NO!! :fear: Any modern type stuff that's man made... blargh!! And a big no no for vehicles (I think that's why I have a tendency to stay away from sci-fi stuff... space ships, vessles, lazer cannons... :nirvana:).

Right! :highfive: That's one of the last thing I want to do. If I was clearly inspired by something, or if I use some specific, obvious reference or a brush, I always make sure to mention it and link it back to the source. Other than that... I hate to take credit for something that doesn't belong to me. Nope, nope, nopppe. This is one of the biggest reasons why it pissed me off when I found out one of my favorite artists takes screencaps and paints out the characters/edit them (apply filters, etc) and use them as BG for some of his commission work and THEN charges people like $500. :disbelief:

Urgh... that's so terrible, I'm sorry that happened to you. :( That guy is a complete ass, but I'm glad he wussed out when you threatened him in the journal (afterall, he may have just been a spineless jerk just acting tough behind keyboard). I have a persistant, stalker who's been stalking me for the last 2-3 years (rabid fangirl/hater who didn't have the guts enough to come at me here, but talked shit about my work and me as a person behind my back in a foreign site in her own language). About a year after I blocked her ass, she bothered to make a new account and pretended to be someone else, left a nice comment, and started faving some of my stuff... I already knew it was her the day she made her new account. But at this point, I don't give a f*** about her (that doesn't mean she doesn't piss me off... she's ALWAYS going to be on my shit list hitting emoticon ). I wish dA just took the time and money out into making USEFUL updates... especially after they bothered to sell themself to Wix (I don't think anything changed since then).

Ha ha! I could say the same thing about "Wait until I let my darkside out...". Someone once told me they were nervous to talk to me because of my "intimidating" stamp collection on the front page. :XD: I blame the buttknockery, rude, shitty, internet people.

No. To me, fanfiction is more like a homage, or fans just simply having fun with their favorite characters/franchise and or with their fandom OC's.

Unless you claim the original cannon characters or the storyline itself without crediting the original creator and publish it solely for profit purpose, I don't consider it to be plagiarism.

Thanks for that. A lot of my family thinks all I'm doing is plagiarism, which I keep saying is not. I try to explain to them what fan-fiction is exactly but they don't want a 2-hour explaination, they just want an immediate answer, so I kinda gave up...

No problem ;) I understand what you mean; some people (especially people from our parents' generation since majority of them are pretty hard headded :XD:) aren't just going to get it, and they never will. Sometimes it's just better to give up and walk away from those kinds of people because you'll be wasting your time and energy trying to convince them/making them understand (when they won't make any effort to do so) when you could be doing something productive and enjoying life. I had to learn that the hard way.

Wow. Sometimes being blunt catches the eye and the attention. :) Using this. There is RAMPANT art theft here on DA and some don't know that DA could get sued or shut down, or both, due to copyright issues. Sad. (Nicely done stamp, btw)

Thank you! :) I'm glad you like the stamp :D

Seriously though... Some people think everything on DA is free to use just because it's on the internet and not something that's on the store's shelf with a price on. I recently found a Deviant who was stealing people's work and selling them as prints. Many people already reported that kid and all the work that he stole got taken down from his gallery, but he still didn't get banned. He even mentioned that those weren't his work, and he just found it online and posted them because he can't draw (like that gave him any excuse...).

Also, my fiancee told me last week that he ran into a dude who had a really cool tattoo, and asked him where he got it from, and the dude told him that the guy at the tattoo studio went on DA on his laptop and just went through some images/somebody's gallery and had him pick out whatever image that he liked and just tattooed that artist's work on his arm. Now, some people may think this isn't really art theft, but I personally think it still, clearly is. The dude at the tattoo studio was using DA like a f*cking stock image or a clip art site.

People who plagiarize suck!
One of my paranoia's when writing is accidental plagiarism, which can be possible. As well as having my stuff stolen, if I ever get around to finishing anything. XP
A friend of mine in High School had a teacher accuse her of plagiarizing a summery off of Sparknotes and the girl had never looked at the Sparknotes for the book. Then again, I think that might have been one of the teachers everyone hated cause they'd do crap like that to a student if they didn't like them... =/

I know, right? Some people have absolutely NO shame of committing art theft!

I get paranoid too sometimes about my work... if I find some work that reminds me of mine, or if the character has similar clothing, pose, design, etc. by coincidence, I always feel like "Oh crap, I hope this person won't think I ripped off his/her work" or "I wonder if he/she ripped off of mine"... If I was inspired by something, or if I needed some specific reference, I try my best to link it back to the reference or the image, etc. I was inspired by, as much as I can.

I'm sorry about your friend and that teacher was a jerk bag. There was a teacher just like that in college. I only heard about it, but apparently, one of the students submitted one of the scenes from Final Fantasy 7 as his/her project (Animation/Digital Media department) and claimed that it was their work, and one of my fiancee's buddies caught that and let the teacher know that the student plagiarized, but the teacher didn't believe him. Apparently the teacher gave that student an A and just bashed the guy who reported the plagiarism (later I heard that the teacher didn't like the guy who reported). What a BS... in every single classes, we all had to sign the "You will get expelled if you plagiarize... blah blah blah..." sheet in the beginning of the sememsters.

I think in that case, the guy should have gone higher up to report it and showed the scene in the game. Getting an A on a collage project that was plagiarized is just horrible. And the teacher just shrugging the report off and not looking into it is just as horrible and not doing there job to the fullest.

As a victim of plagiarism twice, it really irritates me that people think they can just go around stealing someone else's work. The first time it happened, I sent a story to a guy so he could beta read it. Six weeks later, no response, so I get another beta and post it. Then he posts the exact same story two days after that. Worst of all, he accused me of ripping off his story.
The moderators removed the story and banned him from that site.

Ugh, some people have absolutely no shame! I'm really sorry that you had to go through such thing, but I'm so glad that the moderators removed the story and banned him. That's what he gets for stealing your story and then accusing you of ripping off his story (seriously... just what the hell was he thinking). Justice served! I really wonder what kind of mind sets art thieves have. It should be common sense not to steal people's ideas or work (both written or drawn), but they still do it. It really pisses me off especially when they have absolutely no shame on committing it.

I have a concept for a show that I've been working on since college, but I don't want to post any of the character art until I buy full copyrights because I don't want to risk any of the theft.

I've just ran on one art that was drawn from my own, - who would ever guess? - my friend plagiarized it. The concept, the pose, the character roles and even the title. I can do nothing with it, it's still on DA and she gets all this "good work" things for nothing... well, actually, once a book of mine was stolen and a bit rewritten and published, so this one's a small case, but fresh.
If people steal from me, at least they could show me and lie to me "I took a concept from yours, is that OK, can you critique this?" or something.

Wow, that's insane. :( I'm sorry to hear that... it's really disheartening, especially that it was your friend who plagiarized. But how come you can't do anything about it? Have you confronted her? I understand it may be hard to report the deviation because it's your friend's but the principle is wrong, she shouldn't have plagiarized your work.

I had a friend of mine who plagiarized my work and another friend of ours. My boyfriend and I confronted her indirectly (since we didn't want to cuss her out abruptly), but she brushed it off.

I can't believe she just apologized and didn't bother to take it down :disbelief: I'd be very furious if it was me... That friend of mine who plagiarized my work, she wasn't gonna sell it (I wasn't planning on doing anything serious with that character or the story), so I eventually shrugged it off and pretended that it never happened, but still... I wish she didn't do it. I also wish your friend didn't plagiarize your work :( I wish she didn't disrespect you like that.

Even though I haven't ran into serious plagiarism issue, I had a couple DBZ fanart of mine stolen and used as trading cards or got them posted on bunch of random forums without my given consent. It's a fanart, and I don't own the characters, so I guess I can't say a whole lot, but if it were to be my characters from my own creation, I'd be furious. I'd like to share my new work here on DA and on my web portfolio, but I decided not to post them until I buy full copyrights on them because certain people out there, you just can't trust. I heard that buying full rights on your work will be a long, tedious process but at the end, I think it'll worth it since they'll be protected under your name.

Like this one guys who stole some art piece and submitted it. When people complained, it turned out that he thought this was just a site to show people art that you liked. (regardless of the fact that it wasn't your own)

But that's kind of a rare case. In general, I'm completely against art theft.(Who isn't?)

I understand. I think I've ran into couple people like that on other art sites and here on DA few years ago; those people really just thought the site was a place where they were able to share artwork that they thought were cool, and that was a simple misunderstanding, so there's no harsh feeling towards them.

But it really pisses me off whenever people deliberately steal work when the artists mention their work is not for commercial use, or not to re-post their work on other websites/blogs, OR completely rip off other people's designs and concepts... that's unacceptable. :disbelief: When I saw couple of my work being used on some dude's Yugioh trading cards forum over the summer (and of course he didn't ask for my permission), my anger skyrocketed.

When I click on the link, I can still get to the deviation, but I couldn't find it in his gallery. I'm sure it'll eventually be removed.

Another huge incident that happened this year was the son of the famous what's his name's "Incarnate"; that was... just impressive.
