A good animation to watch is 'The Dover Boys', a looney tunes animation. It was one of the first to use the technique. Basically the idea is to stretch a frame abnormally to fill up space that would normally be taken up by individual frames. An example of an in-between frame is here: [link] and [link] here. It looks strange, but when you play though it with an animation it looks really smoothe and gives the illusion of speedy movement.

Here is a really good post on smearing:

If you end up trying let me know! =)

This is a pretty good start on an animation - though it seems that some of your timing is off. There are certain parts of the animation I think that could use fewer frames to speed up the action (particularly the swing and the end throw), and to prevent that from looking choppy you can use the smear technique. If you are unfamiliar with it I can show you some examples!
Also I think it could benefit from some exaggerated actions. When he swings, really let him rear back and put some force into it. It will take a bit more work, but it pays off.

Also, were you adding details from the start of the project or did you go from simple shapes to details? Starting off with your simple shapes will really help too.
