Well, my friends and I have been discussing, and we have come to the conclusion that Link is actually child to his past self and a Great Fairy. Reason being, that, if he weren't a descendent of a great fairy, he would have the same/less power that Zelda has over spells. For instance, Zelda can use Din's fire, but her's is only a small fireball. Link has an explosion covering maybe 7 feet? Zelda's Farore's Wind can only go so far, yet Link's can go through walls and has no real limit to distance. Zelda's Nayru's love only protects her from projectiles for a small amount of time before dispersing. Link's actually shields him entirely. ALSO, this would explain his relationship to the great fairy (queen?) in Wind Waker. In fact, she kinda hits on him. This would ALSO explain the mini clip in Majora's Mask (that Nintendo didn't use...) with one of the Fairies teaching Link how to do a special move. This also explains the absence of Link's father in each and every game.
