I decided to give an author’s afterword to my story above! I hope you’ll like it!

The Kiss Scene and the Disappearance of the Gags

This scene is the emotional fulcrum of the entire story. At first glance, it seems like a simple moment of contact, almost static, yet it is here that the dream unfolds toward awakening.

The gags symbolize not physical silence, but an inner one—the silence that remains after betrayal, after the words that are already too late to say.

When Marina and Paulina lean toward each other, they are not breaking the rules of the dream—they are rewriting them.

The kiss is not a gesture of passion, but a gesture of recognition. It is not “I love you,” but “I understand you.”

That is why, in this moment, the fabric of the dream loses its solidity: light dissolves the ropes, the ribbons vanish,

and all that remains is their breathing—shared, steady, like an exhale after a long tension.

Visually, the scene is built on the gradual merging of light and shadow: black and white stop conflicting, becoming a golden shimmer

in which both heroines are no longer opposites, but reflections of each other.

It is the moment when the dream ceases to be a story about two people—and becomes the story of one person reconciled with their own shadow.

After the kiss, the silence no longer presses—it becomes a space for forgiveness.

It is within that silence that Marina finally hears Paulina’s breath—the very breath she had been missing in order to wake up.

“Lifting the Silence”

In the moment when Marina and Paulina reach toward each other, the dream stops being merely a metaphor and becomes an inner act of reconciliation.

Their kiss is not physical but symbolic: a touch between two parts of the same mind, two voices that have been silent for far too long.

The gags, woven from light, disappear not because of the force of the gesture, but because of its meaning—for they were crafted not from fabric, but from fear and guilt.

As long as the heroines fought their past, they could not speak; but once they met without defenses, once they allowed their breathing to become shared,

the need for silence dissolved.

This moment is the climax of the dream.

The silence that once felt like punishment transforms into forgiveness.

Light and darkness blend; black and white cease to argue, becoming a single breath.

Thus fades the boundary between “I” and “she,” between guilt and hurt.

In this touch, Marina is not simply freed from the gag—she allows herself to speak for the first time in years, even without uttering a single word.

Psychological levels:

1. Metaphysical (Dreamlike)

If we view the dream as a space of the soul,

then the gags represent the boundary between the conscious and the subconscious.

As long as the heroine fears touching her “dark half” (Paulina), this boundary remains.

But when she allows herself intimacy — a contact with her “shadow” — an integration of the personality occurs.

In Jungian terms, this is an act of uniting the Anima and the Shadow, the light and dark aspects of the Self.

The gags symbolize separation.

The kiss symbolizes unity.

Therefore, once unity happens, separation loses its meaning and disappears.

2. Emotional–Symbolic

The white ribbon is not just a “sign of silence”; it is a sign of control, restraint, the desire to “be proper,” to hide weakness.

When the two heroines touch, the artificial roles collapse:

light and darkness stop being opposites,

good and evil become inseparable,

“guilt” and “resentment” shift into acceptance.

The kiss becomes a moment of “dissolving duality.”

Light and darkness blend; white stops being pure, black stops being dirty.

What remains is simply a human being — with breath, warmth, fragility.

And at that moment they no longer need words, because they have found understanding on a level deeper than speech.

This is why the gags disappear naturally — not because they were removed, but because the very reason for their existence vanished.

3. Psychological

The gags symbolize silence, an inner block, an inability to speak and express feelings.

Marina and Paulina cannot speak not because they are physically restrained, but because they are emotionally cut off from each other — by shame, hurt, and guilt.

In this context, the kiss is not a sexual gesture, but an act of nonverbal communication — an intuitive acknowledgement.

They cannot say “forgive me” with words — but they express it with their bodies, their breath, their closeness.

In this moment, their silence stops being a barrier and becomes a connection.

Thus the “gags” — materialized silence — simply lose their meaning and disappear.
