These are some parts of the human figure I started to make and which were very useful for learning. I used references and tutorials for them.

Eye reference:

The original image belongs to its owner. I used it as reference in the interest of accurate depiction of the texture of the white of the eye. I meant no disrespect by it. I learned a lot by watching it closely I took a day for the white of the eyes and eyelids to get finished :)

For highlights and shadows of the skin this tuts are really helpful:

and some of Linda Bergkvist’s tutorials mostly found at the CGSOCIETY [link]

and also an Anatomy atlas is a very good friend in this case.

mostly these were used to make this: [link]

I learned a lot from them and I will continue to learn and improve.

What type of tool did you use for the hair??

I mainly used a custom brush for painting hair (you can think of it as collections of dots)it helps you paint the strands and a palette of five colors. I drew the braid on paper first, scanned it and then I colored it on pc.

No problem, you can safely apply hair painting technique on braids (with that custom brush I mentioned) just be careful where the lights go, as the lights and shadows create volume and also make the hair look shiny.

the braid is really well done! and thank you for putting the tutorials in the description, because I'm so new to digital painting and each tutorial I see is needed and very helpful haha :P

Thank you. The best way to learn is to experiment with what you learn from the tutorials. Granted, sometimes you may end up with strange things (like me for example when I first made a braid it had some kind of greenish hue to it, not unpleasant but a bit weird, but hay now I know how to make green hair - so my advice is to watch a tut and then start experimenting. If the end result is not what you expected try again eliminating what you think is wrong. Also, I make my sketches on paper first, than I scan them and after that the fun begins.

By the way Billie looks good. The nose is a bit out of place, in my opinion you should try to make it more defined with shadows and lights. Anyway good start there.
