Genes/Jacks Hybrid

I've been mulling this idea over for a long time now, and I'm still trying to decide how I like these. The last couple years I've stopped wearing SteepleJacks in favor of my Gene designs. I think mostly that the baggy pants interfere with driving a clutch. There are however, several things about Jacks that I do enjoy, so I've been trying to combine the best of both worlds. These have more structural components of Genes, like the back yoke, an articulated knee (I'm still trying to decide if that bit is necessary with the flexibility the cuffs add, but it looks great) crotch gusset, etc. It also has baggier pant legs (but not as baggy, a compromise), cuffs, and the bamboo fold pockets that Jacks have.

I'm also trying to think of what to name them... maybe Jaques? Though I'd take a Germanic word over French any day.

These ones I made as winter pants, so they're made of a heavy wool fabric with cotton twill for the contrast fabric.

Ahhh the articulated knee is so fantastic! It gives such character to the silhouette of this hybrid design.

"I think mostly that the baggy pants interfere with driving a clutch."

LOL

Now I'm getting this anachronistically mental image of hundreds of thousands of Japanese men swearing off a few centuries' worth of traditional clothing all because somebody introduced the Model T to the Orient.

They are like Ninja pants from the future. Now if I could only get those in a black, and a slightly darker black.

Gonna become a blacksmith apprentice within a month and I would really like a stylish steampunk blacksmith outfit that can take a beating and become even better looking over time...

Any ideas on what to get?

Love your work btw!!

I recommend looking into a leather apron. Not one of those yellow ones like what welders wear, but a top grain (smooth on the outside) brown apron. It would probably be stiff at first, but after using it for a time a nice leather apron would get a good patina. Also, look into wool clothing. Wool is fire retardant (not the same as fire proof) and will insulate you from the intense heat of a forge. Good for gloves, shirts, pants, etc. It's just a matter of getting a balance between fire safety and comfort (since wool will also insulate the heat from your body)

These are very, very cool. Is the overall design inspired by Japanese work pants?

That's correct, it's an evolution of marcusstratus.deviantart.com/a… which was inspired by www.tobi.jp/products.html
