Red Panda

Red Panda at Paignton Zoo Environmental Park. Ailurus fulgens.

I find this to be a particularly sweet animal to observe; it seems to have both cat and bear-like qualities, although it is the only member of the family Ailuridae. This individual was eating bamboo, however red pandas have a varied omnivorous diet and will consume smaller animals, eggs, insects etc. These animals are native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China, with there being approximately 10,000 living in the wild.
