Uruk-Hai by Mara999 Uruk-Hai by Mara999
The most prominent of all orkish breeds are the Uruks of Mordor, as well as Saruman's own Uruk-Hai. Saruman's creatures are described as larger than most orcs and even taller than the older "model" of Uruk. The gear of the Isengarders is described as looking more like that of Men in Middle-Earth, so I gave the armour similar to what I intend to give the soldiers of Gondor. They're also described several times as being "lynx-eyed", which I've decided to portray by giving them vaguely cat-like eyes and features.

yes I can see what you're talking about on your other picture. The Uruks here really do have a kind of "elf" look to them especially with the ears of the guy on the right.

While I read the lord of the rings my inner science fiction fan came to life, and in my head cannon Saruman was using genetic engineering to clean up the original elven strains of DNA. Maybe add in a little wildcat and predatory cat DNA to give some ferocity. Saruman was always a bit of a rivet counter and perfectionist in my mind; hence his love of metal and wheels. It makes sense he'd view living things the same way.

But back to topic, I do love their armor, making them look more like men of Gondor and their gear really helps to elevate them above baseline mooks. You've seen the enemy, and the enemy is you.

There are so many things in Tolkien's legendarium that could be adapted to a sci-fi story, particularly with so many bad guys having a connection to industrial technology. I've actually thought about how especially The Lord of the Rings could be adapted almost beat by beat to a post-apocalyptic future, a millennia or so after the world has been ravaged by nuclear warfare and given rise to mutants.
