My Novel will be Launched on Amazon this Christmas

PROJECT HEAVENSTORM Book One of the Elixir Trilogy Twenty-one thousand years ago, it nearly destroyed the world. One man wants to bring it back. On the distant world of Haloken, the line between science and magic has long since blurred. Humans and Dragons have mostly forgotten their differences and live side by side. Godlike titans roam the seas, observing all, rarely intervening. Tonight, all this could come to an end. A psychically powerful fanatic and his private army of trained killers have invaded an isolated island college. They hold staff and students hostage, demanding the nations of the world hand over its most powerful and ancient secret – the Elixir. Only a small band of Human and Dragon students stand between the forces of evil and global cataclysm. And where the Elixir is concerned, even the gods must tread carefully.

Walter White vs Smaug

Walter White vs Smaug

How many Heisenbergs would you need to make one Smaug? In the episode of Breaking Bad entitled "Ozymandias" (aka The Greatest Fifty Minutes in Television History), it was revealed that Walter White's buried stash of drug money amounted to US $80 million. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozymandias_(Breaking_Bad) On the Forbes website for their annual "Fictional 15" list, it was estimated that the hoard of Smaug the Dragon (from JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit) amounted to US $62 billion dollars. http://www.forbes.com/pictures/mlg45jffl/1-smaug/ Divide 62 billion by 80 million, and you get 775.  So Smaug is 775 times as wealthy as Walter White. SFX Top 100

SFX Top 100

A while ago I bought the special edition of SFX Magazine featuring "The Top 100 Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Movies of All Time".  I wasn't too surprised with most of the results.  I'm pleased to see that Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park and The Fifth Element have passed the test of time.  However, while they have included such non-supernatural horror classics as The Birds and Halloween (the original, of course), there's no sign of Psycho, Jaws, or The Silence of the Lambs.  What's up with that?

'Yes, Jolonah, There Is a Hell'

The story in which the Queen of Pain made her debut has been translated into Russian on Samizdat (samlib.ru). http://samlib.ru/a/annit_o/hell.shtml Here's the English translation of the Russian Translation. http://translate.google.com.au/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&u=http://samlib.ru/a/annit_o/indexdate.shtml&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dwww.orionsarm.com/page/233%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1114%26bih%3D1233%26prmd%3Dimvns&sa=X&ei=BYceUO7RFNCeiAf4iIGIBg&ved=0CFgQ7gEwAg As you can see, the Russian title translates as "Immortal Penalty", which is quite appropriate given the plot. My Orion's Arm serial "Initiation" (which also features the Queen - oops, She Who Mus

Here's another response to The Story That Shall Not Be Named. http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?248929-A-fate-worse-than-this I particularly like the "criticism" that accuses me of having "too much thinking time" for that story.  That's right, "too much thinking time" for a 15,500 word novelette.  Gee, where does that put Lord of the Rings? When I started writing that story, it was 2 years after 9/11 and nearly a year after the Bali Bombing.  So if you want to blame someone for the Queen of Pain, blame the terrorists.

The Story That Shall Not Be Named

The Story That Shall Not Be Named

As I have stated on my Facebook page, The Story That Shall Not Be Named continues to divide opinions on the net. Here are two examples: http://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/rob-lets-you-perform-one-free-planet-busting-with-a-catch.227095/ https://pay.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/u6ocu/whats_your_favorite_wtf_did_i_just_read/c4srrqr?context=3 To be fair, I wrote the story in 2003, at a time when I was more spontaneous.

Orion's Arm Short Fiction Contest closes 20th July

There's little more than three weeks left before the Orion's Arm Short Fiction Contest closes. http://www.orionsarm.com/xcms.php?r=oa-page&page=gen_shortfictioncontest If you can write a decent short story set in the Orion's Arm universe in the time you have left, by all means give it a go. I am presently writing a novelette that features these two characters: http://fav.me/d4w3o0v http://fav.me/d4sgryn http://fav.me/d2or1hb http://fav.me/d2agg51 http://manyardbutler.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset
