In late June I wore my full ranger kit to the Colorado Renaissance Festival to test it out for an upcoming three-day primitive hike/camping trip I had planned. I carried a bedroll, various pouches loaded with supplies, and basically everything I knew I would be bringing along on my trek. It was definitely a first for me to visit the festival so fully loaded, and there were plenty of people who were quite bewildered that I would voluntarily wear such a heavy, cumbersome load in the hot Colorado sun, but overall the test went quite well, and early in July I wore almost this exact rig on my first ever primitive ranger trek, and I didn't die! Next year, however, will doubtlessly see many adjustments and improvements, as I refine my kit, and make it more practical overall.
