Two Sentries

Description

This shows two soldiers of the 36th Regiment of Foot on sentry duty circa 1746, in campaign outfit, enjoying their bit of fine Scottish weather.

This is what the average redcoat would actually look like in action most of the time during the mid-18th century. Pretty far from the neat and tidy image most books want to give of these men. They'd botton up the vest when cold, be overloaded with items and bags most of the time (these were sometimes discarded before a battle), and uncock their hats to protect them from bad weather.

I wanted to work on postures, and rain/water effects on this one.

Great work!

Guard duty outdoors in the rain is most hated thing ever. Cold, dark and wet, feels pointless most of the time. When shift ends all gear is dripping with water and not going to dry before next shift.

Speaking of readines: some sentries here nowadays in rear lines, when everything is quiet can be issued only bayonets, without a rifles.
