Description

Testing new brushes. This shows the glorious actions of this French Scottish regiment during the battle of Culloden, covering the retreat of the whole army, being the only unit that stood fast and performed an orderly retreat along with the Irish picquets, also draw and brigaded from 4 different French Irish regiments. The Royal Ecossois stood in line, delivered volleys as line infantry, then proceeded to cover the army's retreat, then try and escape themselves, by retreating in order along a road and a small stone wall on the right flank of the Jacobite side. Being ambushed by loyalists highlanders hiding behind one of the stone walls, the regiment returned fire and eventually killed the highlander commander. Then they proceeded to march away from the battlefield, and saving the colours from pursuing government's dragoons, killing at least one of them in the process, the rest of the dragoons didn't dare to try again at some point given how firm the regiment behaved. The Royal Ecossois managed to escape the battlefield with both the Colonel and Regiment flags, only surrendering weeks later at Inverness with full honours, returning in France, where they kept serving the King dutifully.
