AU - Meeting the Prince

All it takes is a shift, a slight action that alters the course of history and reshapes the bonds formed. After the banishment of Princess Luna when she fell to the Nightmare, Princess Celestia stood strong as a pillar of hope and light for her subjects. While she gave them warmth, in isolation, she felt cold and alone. Her only bond she would confide in was gone. It was during these many years that a friend of years passed had appeared in Canterlot, a friend who bequeath to her a dragon's egg and with his parting words to "Live again", Princess Celestia decided to take that step and in doing so, brought Spike into the world.

Being two years younger than Twilight, Spike was raised with the morals and royal code by Princess Celestia. He was raised to be a prince and while Spike strove to meet his mother's expectations, he felt the cold stares of the nobles and the citizens of Canterlot. Dragons were seen as monsters, creatures to be feared and avoided. While ponies had their prejudice against Spike, he sought to change that. He believed that being the son of a ruler, Spike should represent the title he had to bear. Spike became stoic and reserved. He would do his level best to contain any emotion for any action seen as a negative would reflect on his mother, Celestia.

Despite Princess Celestia's words of encouragement to meet the nobles, Spike remained alone. Celestia knew of Spike's struggles and no matter what she said, she couldn't get through to him. She could care less what the nobles had to say about her raising a dragon as her son, it wouldn't change anything between them, but Spike couldn't understand that, but there was hope. The other day, a young unicorn passed her exams with flying colors and simultaneously acquiring her Cutie Mark.

Princess Celestia learned quite a bit about this unicorn, Twilight Sparkle. Bright, studious and always eager to learn new things, but she lacked a fundamental, something she knew that she would need for the road ahead, friendship and so it was on this day during Twilight's attendance in the Gifted School of the Unicorns, that she would assign her son, Prince Spike to Twilight Sparkle. Hopefully they can fill the void in what is missing in their lives.
