No need to search anymore, It is now here, for real, in my trembling hand! ;)

Lathed and sculptured by the mathematical GODS

Impossible for us to see or hold before the key to their cosmos was handed over to us by the collaboration of Daniel White, Paul Nylander, Thomas Löwe, Jesse, Luca and many many others at fractalforums.com.

For you who don't know about the quest for this particular Holy Grail, check out the original thread at fractalforums: [link]

It is possible to drink from it, but the material is "not foodsafe" according to Shapeways.
A funny fractal detail is that the "bowl" contains a copy of the whole Grail, and that copy contains a copy…

This version is very expensive because there are lots of invisible details inside the "globes", if there are interest I could do a cheaper version where I have booled it out = less material to print.

My first submission to fractal forums contest this year: [link]

Mandelbulb 3D > Fiji > Meshlab > Netfabb > Shapeways

Behind the scene:

More images / take it for a spin / buy a very expensive plastic Grail at shapeways: [link]

I love that you threw some broccoflower back there. Nice touch haha

You know the Broccolo is a perfect example of fractals in nature.
Glad you like it Mandy! (Mandy is also a fractal :) )

That's why I found it was a nice touch lol

How is Mandy a fractal? Unless you mean any letter-number combination can be thrown into an equation for fractals lol

Mandy is kind of slang for the mandelbrot set... like this one f.ex. : [link]

Love this piece Johan, you've managed to get so many fractal references into it,
but in a perfect, uncluttered composition.
You've got a Canon EOS1Ds MKIII?

You lucky b****r!! ;)

Thank you very much Mark, glad you like it!

And hehe no! It was taken in the studio where I used to work as a photo assistant many years ago.
The camera is used by my old "boss" Ralph, who also pushed the button for this one. (composition is all mine though!)

Would it be possible to get the 3d file for this? I'm interested in cutting out some of the unseen material to make it cheaper to print.

I will cut it out if anyone is interested, thank you for asking!
(It will not become much cheaper, still a big piece...)

Okay. Guess I'll stick to trail and error, any tips on finding the same formula?

WOW, amazing work! I just looked up that thread you linked, but I can't find the thread where they actually discover this fractal. Or maybe I'm understanding this the wrong way?

Thank you Migael, glad you like it... Well I guess it is me being unclear, the tread was about the discovery of the mandelbulb (searching for the holy grail of 3D fractals) this one is a blend of different new 3D fractals discovered since then (the mandelbox). So it was more like a joke because it looks like a holy Grail...

I see...well, it looks so strikingly beautiful, I thought you actually meant the "holy grail of fractals", and I got pretty damn excited :D

Great work, really complex fractal shape like that with less the 1'000'000 faces limit is an amazing job, congratulations

Thank you Nic, nice to hear from someone who knows.
Yes, I am right below the limit here, but actually Shapeways has a (complicated) way to get objects with more than 1000k faces printed, Bib told me about it, I can give you the link if you need it.

I wish I had some extra cash but we got a big 50th wedding anniversary coming up for my in-laws next month and it's costing us an arm and a leg to put on. I would love to have one. ;) But what can you do? That's life, lol.
